The Ratliff Family

Franklin L. Ratliff, was born in 1850 in Lawrence County and moved to Hardin County on the east side of the river in 1880s. He lived in the Swift Community during the first half of his life. He crossed to the west side of the river and built a log house about one mile south of White Oak Creek. He lived the last half of his life in Hookers Bend and died in 1929. He is buried in New Harmony Cemetery on the east side of the river.

Robert Tilman Ratliff, born 1892, lived his adult life in Hookers Bend. He died in 1953 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery. His wife and my paternal grandmother, Faudie Jewell Sipes Ratliff, lived in Hookers Bend most of her life until the late 1970s when the TVA purchased the homestead via eminent domain for a nuclear power plant that was never built. She died in 1984 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery beside her husband.

Brownie Arvis Ratliff, age 73, was born 1929 in Hookers Bend and lifelong resident of Hardin County . He moved his family to Morris Chapel in 1955.
