Descendants of Samuel R Allen

 Descendants of Samuel R. Allen

SAMUEL R.1 ALLEN was born August 16, 1830 in Kentucky, and died February 02, 1910 in Hardin Co., TN   (buried Liberty).  He married (1) HARRIET WHITLOW September 1855 in Hardin County, Tennessee, daughter of MILTON WHITLOW and SARAH WADE.  She was born Abt. 1835, and died January 26, 1884 in Hardin Co., Tennessee.  He married (2)ISABELLA FALLS MCDANIEL

In a deed recorded on October 3, 1874, S. R. Allen purchased 50 acres of land in the 8th Civil District – now Hookers Bend Community.  He bought the land from Philip and Louisia Holt for $230.00.  The land is North of the highway in front of what is now the Segal Tall property.  The Holts signed by making their marks and the signing was witnessed by L.A. and F.S. Vickery.  D.T. Street was County Court Clerk then and the deed was acknowledged on December 11, 1874.  So I assumed they moved across the Tennessee River at that time.

Children of SAMUEL ALLEN and HARRIET WHITLOW are:

                   i.       GRANVILLE S.2 ALLEN. Granville was married to Nora Blankenship – Abe Blankenship’s sister.  They lived in Madison County northwest of Jackson.  They had three children: Ulva, Myrtle, and Bessie.  Ulva married Maude Nesbitt, a school teacher.  They had no children.  They had a farm north of Jackson.  Myrtle was married to Dr. C.E. Reams of Bells, Tennessee.  They had one son, Clyde Eason.  He and his wife Juanita live in Bells at his parents’ homeplace.  Clyde died of cancer in March of 1997.  Bessie was married to a Mr. McPeake and they had three children: Jerry, David, and Sibyl.  When Bessie and her husband died, Ulva and Maude gave the three children a home and educated them.  Jerry went into the service of his country, David attended Union University and became a Baptist Minister.  Sibyl was living in Chicago when last I heard of her.

ii.       WILLIAM R. ALLEN. Was listed in the 1870 census as being 4 years old.  In 1880 census he was again listed and was 14 years old.

iii.       GEORGE H. ALLEN. At one time lived in Rutherford, Tennessee. Both he and his son were musicians.  It is thought they later moved to Arkansas.

                 iv.       UNKNOWN ALLEN. (died young)

                  v.       UNKNOWN ALLEN. (died young)

2.              vi.       MILTON JAMES "JIM" ALLEN, b. October 16, 1859, Hardin Co., TN; d. July 09, 1935, Hooker's Bend, Hardin Co., TN.

vii.       SALLY (SARAH) ALLEN, b. Abt. 1864. **Sarah M. In the 1870 census report, she was listed as “Sally”.  The 1880 report listed her as Sarah.

viii.       WILLIAM SHERMAN ALLEN, b. Abt. 1866.

ix.       GRANT A. ALLEN, b. Abt. 1869. Lived in Madison County, also.  He was married but had no children.

                  x.       EFFIE (ETTIE) ALLEN, b. Abt. 1873.    She was lovingly called “Aunt Betty”.  She never married and was living in Arkansas with her brother George and his family when she died.

xi.       WILBURN ALLEN, b. Abt. 1875.
