OAKLAND
UNITED METHODIST CHURCH RESOLUTION Whereas: The membership of
Oakland United Methodist Church of the Saltillo Circuit, located in the Jackson
District of the Memphis Conference, has declined in membership until its
membership is two; and Whereas: The congregation
ceased to worship together as of December 24, 1995, and Whereas: The District
Superintendent has determined that future growth is not a possibility for the
Church because TVA has purchased most of the property in the Hooker’s Bend
Community. Therefore; Be it resolved, that the 1996 Memphis Annual Conference, meeting June 2-5, 1966, affirm the faithful witness and service of the Oakland United Methodist Church and declare the Church discontinued. Be it further resolved, that the Oakland United Methodist Church property be deeded to the Oakland Methodist Cemetery Association; which shall maintain the property for a perpetual cemetery with rights to sell, lease, or otherwise dispose of the property. NOTE:
The Oakland Methodist Church property was deeded to the Oakland Cemetery
Association in a deed dated March 10, 1997. |
