Obituary of C. E. Croom

C. E. "Red" Croom

  Services for C. E. "Red" Croom, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Bedwell officiating.  Burial will be in the Big Springs Cemetery near Pinson.

  Mr. Croom was pronounced dead on arrival Wednesday morning at Jackson Madison County General Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home in Pinson.

  He was born and reared in Pinson, son of the late Neal and Cassie Croom and graduated from Pinson High School in 1939.  He was employed by Illinois Central Railroad in 1945 and worked as a switchman until his retirement in 1981.  He also worked as an insurance salesman for many years.  He was a member and deacon of the Pinson Baptist Church and a Mason,  a member of the Henderson Blue Lodge.

  Survivors are his wife, Corrine Martin Croom of Pinson and three sisters, Mary Lou Sparkman, Jennie Mae Thomas and Elsie Sheffield all of Pinson.
