Obituary of Fernie E. Beard

Fernie E. Beard - March 15, 2000

     Funeral services for Fernie E. Beard, 86, will be Friday, March 17, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Malesus United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Phillips and Rev. David Shettles officiating.  Burial will follow in Holland Cemetery in Saltillo, TN. Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

     Mr. Beard died Wednesday morning at his home.

     He was the son of the late Edward Hayward and Doshia Viola Gibson Beard and was born in Perry County.  He moved to Decatur County as a child and later to Saltillo.  Mr. Beard served in the United States Navy, in the Central Pacific Theatre, during World War II.  He was a member of the Malesus United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.  Mr. Beard was also a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #332 and Woodmen of the World.  He was a former Boy Scout Master and an avid fisherman.

     Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Rebecca H. Beard of Jackson, whom he married June 4, 1939; a son, Frank Holland Beard and wife Jann of Atlanta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Kacey Beard Stuckey of Dothan, Alabama and Holly Beard Evans of Charlotte, N.C.; and one great granddaughter, Katherine Raulston Evans.

     He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

     Pallbearers to serve will be Wayne Powers, James Singleton, David Watlington, Alan Morris, Bill Alexander, David Stanfill, Don Bailey and Larry Kent.

     Bill Morris, Leon Moyer, Noan Welch, George Morris, Ralph McHughes, Paul Watlington, Herman Watlington, and Sam Watlington are requested to serve as Holorary Pallbearers.

     The family would like for any memorials to be directed to the Malesus United Methodist Church or to Boys Scouts of America.
