Obituary of George W. Norwood

In Memory of George W. Norwood - February 13, 1936

    G. W. Norwood, familiarly known as "Uncle George," died at his home near Oakland in Hookers Bend, February 13, 1936, age 70 yrs. and 11 months.

He leaves, besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Luther White of Henderson, Tenn., one brother, Mr. Tom Norwood of Memphis, and one sister in El Paso, Texas.

He had been in failing health for several months, but was able to be up and about until only a few days before his death.

Probably no man in West Hardin enjoyed a wider circle of friends and acquaintances than he.  This man will be badly missed in Hookers Bend, for he was a good neighbor and a friend to all.  He was  a regular attendant at church and Sunday School and his absence there is deeply deplored.

"Uncle George" was a dear lover of children, and it was a common thing to see a bunch of little tots gathered around him.  His jovial disposition won for him the admiration of everyone, both old and young.

We regret the passing of this good man and extend sympathy to the family.  We will say to them, that we should ever remember that our loss is his gain.  "Uncle George" is gone, but pleasant memories of his life will long linger in the minds and hearts of his many friends.

                                                                A friend.
