Obituary of Mary Johnson Williams

Mary Johnson Williams - July 29, 1998

     Services for Mary Johnson Willliams, 83, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel with Reverend Bill Bates officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

     Mrs. Williams died Wednesday evening at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

     A Jackson native, she was the daughter of the late Elmore and Lucy Mahan Johnson.  She was a partner with Blake Williams Electric Company, and a retired teacher.  She attended Union University for three years and transferred to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, graduating in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.  In 1972, she received a Master of Science in Education degree from Memphis State University.  Mrs. Williams was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, Alpha Delta Pi, and was secretary of the Union University Alumni Association.

     Survivors include her husband, Blake Williams, Sr. of Jackson; a daughter, Susan Williams Jeffries and husband Cliff of Nashville; a son, Blake Williams, Jr. and wife Joan of Jackson; five grandchildren, Christopher Lynn Dilday, Matthew Blake Dilday, Lane Scarbrough, and Cristin Scarbrough, and a sister, Jennie Lou Johnson Phillips of Indianapolis, Indiana.
