T. J. White, horse breeder, former legislator, dies
SALTILLO - Services for T. J. White, 80, a Tennessee Walking Horse breeder and former state legislator, were today at Saltillo United Methodist Church with Dr. Gene Davenport, Lowell Pugh, and the Rev. Judy Wolfgang officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery near Saltillo.
Mr. White, a farmer, died Wednesday evening at Jakson-Madison County General Hospital.
A Decatur County native, he was a veteran of World War II and lived most of his life in the Saltillo area. He belonged to the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Association.
Mr. White was a member of the state Republican Committee, served two terms as a Decatur County road commissioner and two terms in the state General Assembly.
Surviving are his wife, Theo Hughes White; a son, Jerry White of Saltillo; and a grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or a church of the donor's choice.
Shackelford Funeral Home of Savannah was in charge.
