Thomas B. Rouse, Sr.


PINSON, TN- Thomas Brown Rouse, Sr. age 76 died January 23, 2008 at Chester County Healthcare.

Mr. Rouse was born in Chester County, and raised in Madison County, the son of the late Frank Thomas and Bessie Inez Burruss Rouse. He graduated Pinson High School in 1950 as Valedictorian of his class. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served at Lowery Field in Denver. He was married to Helen Wooley in 1951 and they made their home at Pinson all their married life. He was a rural mail carrier for thirty seven years in Madison County, having delivered the mail at Pinson, Oakfield, and South Jackson, retiring in 1989. Mr. Rouse farmed in the Pinson area where he raised cotton, corn, soybeans and cows. He was also President of the Trico Prolix Liquid Feed Company.

He was a Charter member of the Pinson Ruritan Club and had served as the local president, a District officer, and National President of Ruritan in 1985.

He served on the Jackson–Madison County School Board from 1964 until 1969 and served on the Board of Directors and a term as Chairman of the Board of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He had served as Chairman of the Pinson Utility District and was instrumental in establishing the water and sewer services to Pinson.

He served as Lay Leader of Pinson United Methodist Church for many years.

Mr. Rouse was an avid gardner and loved sharing the bounty of his harvest with friends and neighbors.

Mr. Tom was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Pinson".

He is survived by a daughter, Vicki Scarbrough and her husband Mike of Pinson; a son, Tommy Rouse and his wife Gay Lynne of Hendersonville; four grandchildren: Cody and Blake Scarbrough and Savannah and Jordan Rouse, two brothers; Donald Rouse of Finger and J.E. Mullis of Jackson and a sister, Inez Duncan of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Wooley Rouse in 2007, a daughter, Thomesa Lynn Rouse in 1957 and a brother, Guy Mullis.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 P. M., Saturday, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson–Casey Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dyer and Rev. Roger Henson officiating and burial will follow in Big Springs Cemetery at Pinson.

Pallbearers to serve will be Larry Joe Cain, Dell Fulton, Thomas Price, Blake Scarbrough, Cody Scarbrough, and Dr. John Woods.

Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Doomer Benson, Jerry Ellis, Staley Holder, Pepper Martin, Sonny Record, Leo Watson, Bud White, Savannah Rouse and Jordan Rouse.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 4:30 P. M. on Friday.
