HOUGHTON—At his late residence. 766 Harvard street. Alfred Houghton, aged 73 years. He is survived by his wife, Annie H. Houghton, four daughters. Mrs. Jennie Halberstadt. Alta and Ava Houghton of Portland. Mrs. Nelson Dixon of Ridgefield, Wash., four sons. Fred, John, Frank and Robert, all of Portland, also father of the late Charles W. Houghton. H was a Mason.

Research

Per Chris Houghton, this Houghton branch came from England to the US through Michigan in the late 1800s. They lived in Northwich, Chesire, England, around Liverpool. Family tradition connects them to a (not The) sheriff of Nottingham. Alfred and his son Frederic moved from Detroit, MI to Portland OR in the 1910s. They descended from Charles Houghton of Northwich, Cheshire, England, b. circa 1820, who married Eliza Bertwistle.¹
