Biography"Apparently Dad finished his schooling in Elmira and was a whiz at shorthand and typing. He took the Civil Service exam and passed with flying colors...World War I had started and a job was offered in Washington, D.C....They returned home to the farm in Brocket Hollow, Twn Maine, Broome Coungty, N.Y., where they lived in one side of the big farm-house and Dad (Raymond) became a farmer sharing the work with his father Richard...It was decided that Raymond and Mildred would move up on the "hill farm" (owned by Grandfather Richard), known as Cooks Hill and work the farm up there...working at Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory in Endicott, N.Y...and do his farm work...Dad built a big, white house on the side of the hill overlooking Union, N.Y...we ended up buying another farm in Itaska, N.Y...in 1942...Dad sold the farm in Itaska and went to work for the U.S. Engineers in Syracuse, N.Y....(after the Navy) they returned to Glen Aubrey, N.Y. to rent a house and bought 30 acres of land...They built a house.12
