"They moved to Grand Rapids, Mi. where Richard was to seve his Internship at Blodgett Memorial Hospital for one year and received his M.D. Michigan Lic. #18602 (1949). He then worked at the Michigan Veterans Facility, Plainview Ave., Comstock Park, Mi. as Medical Officer and Hospital Administrator until 1950...Then came his Residency of two years at Buttersworth Hospital in Anesthesiology which he finished in 1952...They bought their first home on Glenwood in Grand Rapids, Mi. Since 1952, Richard was in private practice until 196 at Butterworth Hospital in Anesthesiology. He also was in the 126th Infantry National Guard until 1956 (Lt., Cpt., and Major).
1960 came the big move to Portland, Ore...where he worked at St. Vincents Hospital as Chief Medical Officer in Anesthesiology Department for severl years. At the time, they lived on Davenport, Portland Heights and on Northwood in Hessler Heights. He continued his practice until 1972 at which time they moved to a 40 acre farm on a hill, west of Portland and he started working at the Woodland Park Hospital as Chief Medical Officer until 1983. He spent two years setting up and getting approval of an Anesthesiology Serive at Forest Grove Hospital 1983-1985. Richard retired in 1985."⁷

Pauline Gayle was born March 25, 1921, in Endicott, N.Y. A homemaker, she moved to Portland in 1959. In 1940, she married Dr. Richard C; he died in 2002.

Survivors include her sons, Richard C. Jr., Dennis L., Robert G. and Lawrence A; and 11 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; and his brother, Richard. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lauren and Pat Houghton, Lisle, N.Y; two daughters, Linda Houghton, Allentown, Pa., Alice Griffith, Hallstead, Pa; two stepsons, David Luce, Miss., and George and Peggy Barber, Newark Valley; one stepdaughter, Elsie Taggart, Glen Aubrey, N.Y; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Houghton, Fla. Calvin and Ruth Houghton, Md., Raymond and Wanda Houghton, Fla; one sister, Rosemond Van Noy, Whitney Point; also several nieces and nephews. Larry was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant in Radio Communications. He was an avid outdoorsman and operated his own radio-TV repair service. He was a retired employee of Modern Design of Vestal. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2004, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 300 E. Main Street, Endicott. The Rev. Arthur Penird, pastor of the Church of Christ in Christian Union of Endwell will officiate. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.

Alida Houghton, 89, of Schenectady, NY, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012, at Ellis Hospital. She was the daughter of the late, Grant and Mary Alida Carley. She was born in 1922 and raised in Maine, NY. She was a great mother-in-law, mother, grand mother and great great grandmother. Alida enjoyed quilting, reading, great storytelling and traveling all over the country. She had worked for GE and retired from IBM. She was the most beautiful person to everyone that knew her. She loved spending time with family and especially with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was survived by her son, Lauren (Pat) Houghton, Lisle, NY, two dauthers, Linda Houghton, Phillisburg, NJ, Alice Griffin Whitmore, Johnson City, NY; one sister, Penny Hust, Glen Aubrey, NY; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and three on the way; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Grant (Mary Alida) Carley; her sister, Verna; son, Philip; and grandson, Noah. Alida lived a great life with her caregivers, Robin and Will Aponte before her passing. There will be a celebrating of her at the Town of Binghamton Community Center, 1905 Coleman Rd, Binghamton, NY, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00PM. Burial will be in the Spring at the Maine Cemetery at the families convenience. She will always be in the hearts of all family members, friends and loved ones.

FEDERALSBURG - Calvin Junior Houghton, 77, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was born March 6, 1926 in Johnson City, N.Y., the son of the late Raymond Collins Houghton and Mildred Mary Swan Houghton. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On Sept. 28, 1946 he married the former Ruth M. Gorham. Mr. Houghton graduated from Paul Smith's College in New York and later at North Carolina State and received his master's degree. He was a school teacher of the sciences. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 126 Eastern Light and the VFW Post 8284. Besides his wife, Ruth M. Gorham Houghton, he is survived by four sons, Daniel Houghton and his wife, Joan of Denton, James Houghton and his wife, Kathy of Federalsburg, Thomas Houghton of Federalsburg and John Houghton and his wife, Patricia of Virginia; two daughters, Dawn Finch and her husband, Steven of Ohio and Susan Byrne and her husband, Stephen of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Billie Houghton of Norwich, N.Y; two brothers, Robert Houghton and Raymond Houghton Jr., both of Florida and one sister, Rosemond VanNoy of Whitney Point, N.Y. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Houghton and Lawrence Houghton and two great-grandchildren, Madeleine Smith and Brittany Finch.⁵
