BiographyEbenezer's date of birth. His date of birth is July 22, 1780. This is in conflict with his grave-marker. He died on February 14, 1857 and the marker is engraved 77 yrs 5 mos 8 dys. Using those numbers he would have been born on September 6, 1779. However his grandmother, Merriam Butler Houghton's, bible showed that he was born on July 22, 1780. This is known from the transcription of the bible in Ebenezer's father's Revolutionary War Pension file. Why the conflict? It would appear that there was a mistake made when Ebenezer died. Knowing that Ebenezer was born in 1780 it must have been thought that he was 77 years old and then instead of showing the months and days back to his last birthday, the months and days until his next birthday were shown. If he had lived 5 months, 8 days more he would have been 77 years old. An error in mathematical figuring. It is fortunate that on Ebenezer's wife's side of the marker an error did not occur. It is the key piece of evidence to tie her to her father.
ResearchThe History of Medina County and Ohio states that he died in Medina in 1857.

ResearchRichard Harrison: "...there is a second head stone for him in another cemetery in the same area. A descendant (I believe a grandson, but I am not positive of the generation of the descendant) decided that the private cemetery was not a good place for his ancestors so he set out to have them moved. He had the stone erected but, according to my aunt and uncle who lived in that area and did a lot of work on the family history, the bodies were never moved. I also have a photo of the new headstone and it says "Stukley Whitford born July 18, 1758 Died Jan 20 1836 William Whitford born Jan 1, 1771 Died Mar 21, 1848 Jerusha Houghton, his wife, born Sep 23 1782 Died Oct 5 1864." The dates for Jerusha agree with your web site, but the date given for William's birth differs from your data and from the original headstone."7

ResearchSteve Ward: Prudence Jenkins (1806-1882), wife of Daniel D. Loveless, is reportedly the daughter of John Jenkins & Polly Houghton. The records you found support this. With respect to Polly Houghton, however, there is much evidence to support that John P. Jenkins was her first not third husband. She may never have had a "third" husband.
In 1826, the first Baptist denomination in Hadley, Saratoga Co. was formed and both John Loveless & John Jenkins were Deacons. The 1830 US Census shows John Loveless (50-60) & John Jenkins (40-50) living near each other in Hadley. John Jenkins has a wife (40-50) & seven children in the household.
The Cemetery at the Free-Will Baptist Church in Hadley has John P. Jenkins gravestone: Born 1783 & Died 6/22/1839 at age 56 yrs.
The 1840 US Census records show a Polly "Jinkins" for the first time as head of a household in the same vicinity as the Jenkins & Loveless families a decade before.
The Cemetery at the Free-Will Baptist Church in Hadley has Polly Jenkins gravestone: Born 1787 & Died 6/2/1874 at age 87 yrs.
She apparently did marry Samuel Blodget after 1840 who then died before 1850 since Polly "Blodget" (62) shows up in the 1850 US Census for the first time in the same neighborhood in Hadley as a head of the household, living next to who else but a "Jinkins" family AND Maryett Loveless (14), granddaughter of Polly Houghton Jenkins, is also living in the Jinkins household.
Polly Blodget is still living alone next to the Jinkins in the 1860 US Census as well.
Your Samuel Blodgett connection to Polly Houghton has been a great piece to fill in some gaps that I had and to bolster the connection to Prudence Jenkins Loveless!!
