He settled either in Fayette, or, more likely, Rush County, IN (here on the 1830 c) and then to Marshall County, IN by 1850. He had nine children.
History of Marshall Co.: a pioneer of Union Twp, IN, born in England in 1797, came to US when a young man, and located on a farm in Rush county, a farmer and a wagon maker13,10

John Houghton of Swanwick, b. 1790 d. 1877 married Rachel Logan b. Sept 1797 in Xenia, OH This John worked in the Royal Navy yard and served as a merchant seaman in his trade as a ship's carpenter. He sailed from Southhampton to New York, via Havre de Grace, in 1817; from NY to Jamaica in 1818; from Jamaica to England in 1819; and from England back to NY in 1820. From NY he proceeded to the "New Purchase". He bought property at the land sale at Brookville, in Franklin County, and settled on his purchase in Rush County, IN. and is named as an early settler of Union Twp, Rush County in an 1888 History of Rush County, IN. John and Rachel had 10 children.13
