ObituaryMiles Houghton Oct. 4, 1905-Dec. 13, 1995 ELKHART — Miles Houghton, 90, of 1307 E. Indiana Ave., died at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday in the skilled nursing unit of Elkhart General Hospital. Mr. Houghton retired in 1973 as su- I pervisor of building services for the Elkhart Community Schools Corp. and was a firefighter from 1926 to 1962, retiring as fire chief. He was bom Oct. 4, 1905, in Elkhart. Surviving are five sons, Richard, James and Larry, all of Elkhart, George of Rob- ertsdale, Ala., and Jack of Farmville, Va; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Butler of Elkhart. A grandchild preceded him
m death. Mr. Houghton was instrumental in establishing the Elkhart Fire and Police Communication Center. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the International Fire Fighters and Fire Chiefs associations, and a charter member of QWT Ham Radio Magazine.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Warner Funeral Home, Osceola. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
BiographyHe was a fireman for many years and served as the Fire Chief for the last ten years of his service. After leaving the Elkhart City Fire Department, he went to work for the Elkhart Community Schools and worked in buildings and grounds administration.1

Mrs. Ella E. Webster of Oneonta died in the Fox hospital there on Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held today at the Bookhout funeral home at 2 P. M. Burial will be at Laurens, where Mrs. Webster was born on October 11,1861. She is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. William Stevens of Gloversville, Miss Mary Webster and Mrs. Lloyd Agnew of Oneonta, Mrs. Harold Strait of Milford, Mrs. Dayton Fisher of Burlington, Mrs. LaVern Blanchard of North Franklin and Mrs. William Houghton of Morrisville; 16 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

ObituaryMAPLE GROVE - Mrs. Charles Place of Briar Creek passed away at the home of her son, Verner Haynes, at Maple Grove Monday. A recent ailment developed into pneumonia. She had been ill for a little over a week. Mrs. Charles (Houghton) Place was born at Otego February 20, 1874, the daughter of Luther and Julia (Weatherly) Houghton. Over fifty years ago she married Charles Haynes, who passed away about seventeen years ago. Seven years ago she married Charles Place at Otego. She was a member of the West Branch Christian church of Otego, a loving mother and housewife, and devoted to her home. To the first marriage were born two daughters, Mrs. Willard Elderkin of Otego and Mrs. Myrtle Leroy of Oneonta; and two sons, Thomas Haynes of Brooklyn and Verner Haynes, at whose home she passed away. Another daughter, Mrs. Lewis Wilds, died eight years ago. Funeral services were held from the Sloan funeral home at Morris Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The Rev. Maple Grove. Aug. 29 -(Special).-
Charles Haynes of this place died at 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 28. He had been in falling health for several years, but had been confined to the bed only about two months. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the house. Rev. Mr. Dillon of Hartwick will officiate and interment will be in the Hillington cemetery at Morris.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haynes was about 66 of age. He was married to Adelia Houghton of Otego, January 16, 1888, and for a long time had been a resident of this place. The surviving members of the family are his wife, two sons, Verner and Thomas Haynes,both of this place; three daughters Mrs. Arthur Lent, of Briar Creek; Mrs. Myrtle LeRoy of Oneonta; Mrs. Lewis Wilde of Maple Grove; seven grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Sheff Stone, residing near Morris.

He was a worthy and much respected man and a devoted husband and father, and the sympathy of many friends will be extended to the members of the family.
