Salina, KS, USA, JAMESTOWN - C. Lester Houghton, 90, formerly of Jamestown, died Friday, April 28,1991, at St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia.
Mr. Houghton was bom Aug. 5, 1900, at Kackley and lived most of his life on a farm northeast of Jamestown until 1980. He was a resident of the Sunset Home, Concordia, since 1987. He was a fanner and had been employed as an investigator for Kansas State Board of Health for 10 years. He later was employed by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Topeka, retiring in 1968, when he returned to his farm.
He was past chairman for the Republic County Republican Central Committee; past master of the Jamestown Masonic Lodge; past district deputy grand master of the 40th District of Kansas Masons. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Jamestown, the St. John’s Lodge No. 113 AFfcAM, the York Rite Masonic Bodies, Concordia, and the Isis Shrine, Salina.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey of Sunset Home; five daughters, Vivian Almon and Madeline Demars, both of Aurora, Dorothy Sharpe of Clyde, Audrey Hayden of Chapman and Rosalie Grounds of Lawndale, Calif; a son, Charles M. of Randall; a stepson, Verlas Rose of Redlands, Calif; a stepdaughter, Patricia Noordsy of Manhattan; a sister, Iva Benson of Davis, Calif; and many grandchildren and great* grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Jamestown, the Revs. Ralph Jones and Roberta Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Saron Baptist Cemetery, northeast of Jamestown, with masonic rites.
Memorials may be made to the church or Sunset Home.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

Biography

Lester worked for the State of Kansas for much of his career, first with the Kansas Health Department and later with the Kansas Fire Marshall’s Office. He and Audrey Houghton retired in 1968 and returned to Norway Township of Republic County to live on and farm James Nelson’s farm (his grandfather.) They lived on this farm in rural Jamestown from 1968 until 1987 where they moved to Sunset Home in Concordia, Kansas.⁸

Obituary

Hans Anderson, longtime resident of the Jamestown area, died February 3, 1975 at Republic County hospital at the age of 81. He was born northeast
of Jamestown on January 28, 1894, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Andersen. On October 5, 1932 he was married to Miss Ruth Houghton at the home of the bride's parents east of Kackley. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of World War I, and a member of Ada Lutheran church near Kackley. He had farmed for
many years northeast of Jamestown. He is survived by his wife, one son, John E. Anderson three grandchildren. Dean, Dave and Rita Anderson, three sisters, Laura, Hannah and Sophie Anderson and one brother, Henry Anderson, all of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one
daughter, two sisters and four brothers. Interment was in the Danish Lutheran cemetery near Jamestown.⁴

John Edward Anderson, 62, of Jamestown, Kansas passed away on July 27,1999. John was born December 17, 1936 to Hans Emil Anderson and Ruth Vivian Houghton at Concordia, Kansas. He lived and farmed north of Jamestown, Kansas most of his life. He was baptized at Danish Lutheran Church at Jamestown, Kansas and was confirmed at Ada Lutheran Church at Courtland, Kansas where he continued as a committed serving member. He graduated from Courtland, Kansas High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy from Kansas State University. He was united in marriage
to Mary Louise Ficke on March 31, 1959 at Manhattan, Kansas. After Military service in Germany, he returned in 1961 to care for the family farm. He
was a devoted family man and a community leader. John was preceded in death by a daughter Rita Louise Anderson, parents, a sister and brother.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Anderson, Jamestown, Kansas; son Dean Anderson and wife Kathy, Jamestown, Kansas; son Dave Anderson and wife
Carol, Woodbury, Minnesota; 3 grandchildren Brian and Michael Anderson, Jamestown, Kansas; Katherine Anderson, Woodbury, Minnesota.³

Charles was born on August 27, 1932 and passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.

Charles was a resident of Kansas at the time of passing.

Charles was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School.

After high school he joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base where he served for 4 years.

Inurnment will follow the graveside services. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 1-8 pm with the family receiving friends from 5-7 pm at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
