H. Robert Houghton, 81, of 58 Brandt Blvd., Landisville, died Friday at home after a lengthy illness.

He and his wife, Beth L. Nichols Houghton, were married 54 years on March 21.

Born in Sterling, Md., he was a son of the late Henry Nathan and Bertha Spencer Houghton. He lived in Lancaster County since 1967.

A graduate of Bethel High School in Bethel, Vt., he attended Bryant Stratton Business School in Boston.

He worked as a salesman for the National Novelty Brush Co. in Lancaster from 1979 to 1981.

He was baptized in the Catholic faith.

He enjoyed model railroading, photography, archery and fishing.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Henry Robert Jr. and Timothy N., both of Eugene, Ore; a daughter, Susan, wife of William Klinefelter of Lancaster; four grandchildren; and a sister, Harriet Enright, address unknown.

"Sarah M. Houghton
HYDE PARK -- Sarah M. Houghton, 91, died peacefully Monday, November 20, 2000.
She was born in Williamstown on March 1, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Clark) Houghton.
Sarah is survived by her cousin, Helen Fitzgerald, her life-long friend, Bernetta Joyal and many friends who cared for her.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy and Emily.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2000 in St. Teresa’s Church in Hyde Park. Interment will be in the St. Sylvester Cemetery in Barre Town in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory would be appreciated to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, P. O. Box 38, Lake Elmore, VT 05657.
Arrangements are by the White-Fiess Funeral Home, Morrisville."

She was born in Williamstown, the daughter of Joseph J. and Catherine Elizabeth (Clark) Houghton.
Emily is survived by her sister, Sarah Houghton of Hyde Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church, Morrisville, with interment following in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Barre Town. Visiting hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. in White-Fless Funeral Home, Brooklyn Street, Morrisville.

As to her, you have her as "Gertrude E." Instead, Edith Gertrude is correct; I've seen her birth certificate from England. She was generally known as Gertrude or Gert, and is so listed in some records, including census (probably your source). I knew her as my "Aunt Gertie" (actually, my great-aunt.) She was born in Hallow, Worcestershire, England. (Your Web site has it as Windsor.) Your birth and death dates are correct. She died in Essex, Chittenden County, Vermont. (The site simply has "Chittenden, VT" which suggests the town of Chittenden in Rutland County, in another part of the state.) I played on her farm in Essex as a child.1

ObituaryMar 7, 1988Everett E. Houghton WOODSTOCK - A funeral service for Everett Karl Houghton. 78. who died Saturday at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover. N.H.. will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Woodstock The Rev. Norman Brower, pastor, will officiate. Entombment w ill be in the Riverside Cemetery with buriul there at a later dale. He was born on June 11, 1909. in Woodstock, the son of Owen Burnham and Edith (Burdettl Houghton. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1926 and became a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Plymouth. He graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1933. In 1945 he becamed a member of the Vermont State Guard. He was a carpenter for area contractors including Leland Doubleday. Charlie Fiske, Burnside Holt and Harry Shallies. During the 1927 flood he joined several Woodstock area men to reopen the road in Gaysville. Mr. Houghton was past master and a 50-year Member of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge 31 F&AM. He married Lucy Helen Greene on June 11. 1939. He served as a trustee and a deacon for the Woodstock Congregational Church and was a Woodstock selectman. Survivors include his wife of Woodstock: two daughters, Mary Edith Houghton of East Boston. Mass., and Janet Houghton MacIntyre of Woodstock; one sister, Evelyn Clark of East Randolph; one sister-in-law, Frances Houghton of Hartland: nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Class of 1926 Scholarship Fund in care of the Cabot Funeral. Home, 1 Rose Hill, Woodstock, 05091.
