Donald Edward Houghton, 84, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Mattituck, N.Y., died Sunday in the nursing home.

He was a retired architect from Ebasco Services, New York, an Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Jr. of Craftsbury Common, Vt., and Peter A. of Boiling Springs; a daughter, Jean L. Houghton of Huntington, N.Y; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle. Further services will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 15, at Mattituck Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the family's convenience.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlisle funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southold Historical Society, Box 1, Southold, NY 11971.3

She is survived by her daughters, Roma Moore, Charlotte, N.C., and Marlene Edsell, Central Square, N.Y; son, Paul Herrick, Jupiter; brother, Walter Houghton, Eagle Lake, and Harold Houghton, Leesburg; sister, Beulah Donovan, Sarasota, Evalyn LaForce, Clermont, and Alma Beardsley, Leesburg; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Davenport.

Evalyn La Force went home to be with her Lord on July 27, 2005. Born Evalyn Ruth Houghton on October 8, 1915 to Roseanne Mae (Yager) and Allen P. Houghton, Evalyn lived nearly her entire life in Parish, NY. She graduated from Parish High School in 1934. In 1938 she married F. Owen La Force. They had three children, Brenda (Cooper) Leesburg, FL and Oswego, NY, Frazier of Porsgrunn, Norway and Jill, who died in 2004; her husband F. Owen La Force died in 1997. Evalyn is survived by two children; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three Siblings, Walter, Harold, and Alma. Evalyn worked as a beautician before her marriage and later worked in the Cafeteria at the Parish Elementay School retiring in 1977. A lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Parish, NY. Evalyn's Faith in Jesus and her love of family and friends, gave her much peace and strength. She'll be greatly missed and remembered by them.
