P. Douglas Chapman: According to my information collected by my grandfather Cecil Glenn Parker in the 1950's, Elsie Matilda Houghton was the youngest of seven children. She had the following siblings: Arthur; George; Minnie; John; Etta (married George Goodale); and Eugene. This family lived in Western Michigan (Ionia & Kent Counties) in the 1880's.
At least three generations of the female descendants of Ira & Matilda Houghton have had sons who contracted Muscular Dystrophy. The family believes the gene came from Ira's wife Matilda.³
