Obituary

Manson – F. Ross Houghton, 75, Manson, died Thursday in the Lake Chelan Community Hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born Feb. 20, 1908, in Flint, Mich. He moved with his family to Wabamun, Alberta, Canada in 1910. They moved to Leavenworth in 1923. In 1925, he moved to the Lake Chelan area where he was employed on the Chelan Dam tunnel. He later moved to Seattle where he worked at Boeing.

In 1942, he married Muriel Gordon in Ellensburg. In 1943, they purchased the Goose Tail place below Knapps Hill Tunnel where they built their home and planted a small orchard. They sold the orchard in 1953 and moved to Chelan where he was employed as a builder. Following retirement in 1973, they moved to Manson.

Mr. Houghton was a member of the Assembly of God Church; Manson Grange; and charter member of the Lake Chelan Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife, at the home; two sons, Lyle, Anchorage, Alaska, and Keith, Lakeview, Mich; a daughter, Marie Hartfiel, Tacoma; six sisters, Ona Holttum of Kittimat, British Columbia, Mabel Hume and Berniece Wood, both of Seattle, Ellen May Kalles of Pittsburgh, Calif., Lilly McMurray of Athol, Idaho, and Irene Lewandowski of Loop City, Neb; two brothers, Lester, Corvallis, Ore., and Gordon, Newport; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four children, a brother and two sisters.

Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan, is in charge of arrangements.
