Kelton E. "Gene" Houghton of Gainesville died Tuesday in Gainesville. He was 81.

Mr. Houghton was born in Huntington, W.Va., and moved to Gainesville from Melbourne 14 years ago.

He worked in the Loan Office Guarantee of the Veterans Administration for 33 years.

He was a Methodist.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Smith of High Springs and Linda Stewart of Cocoa; four sisters, Bea Lett and Norlene Gilbert, both of Melbourne, Bernie Davis of Washington, Mo., and Judy Marshall of Albuquerque, N.M; four grandchildren, Terri Smith, Brandy Smith, Ruth Ann Bernier and Jessica Grimes; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Nobles and Jeremy Bernier.
