Zoe Cowling Houghton Johnson, 77, of Lusby, formerly of Silver Spring, died peacefully Feb. 27, 2010, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Kingsville, Texas, to the late Verna Woodall Cowling and James Kelley Cowling.

She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Silver Spring in 1949 and went on to attend George Washington University in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1951. She moved in 1976 from Montgomery County to St. Mary's County and settled in Calvert County.

She married Lt. (USN) Robert Jaquette Houghton in 1952 in Silver Spring, with whom she had five children.

In 1972, she married Leo Delbert Johnson in Kensington, who preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1992.

She was an accountant for East-West Lincoln/Mercury for more than 15 years, retiring in 1977.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Faith Cowling Reid.

She is survived by her children, Leslie Frost of Howden, Tasmania, Australia, Susan Bologna of Westminster, Robert Houghton Jr. of Las Flores, Calif., James Houghton of Sarasota, Fla., and David Houghton of Lusby; as well as 10 grandchildren.

A celebration of her life and memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at the Rausch Funeral Home Chapel, 20 American Lane in Lusby.
