SALAMANCA, N.Y. A ghost town high above the city disappeared Saturday when Fentier Village, an amusement park billed as ''where the Old West comes east,'' was disassembled and auctioned off. Carved into a mountaintop 1,500 feet up, the frontier town replica was conceived by Ned Fenton, who died of cancer six months ago. Fentier Village, opened in 1966, was a three-tiered frontier town connected by cable car and steps made of railroad ties. Visitors also traveled through the park via stagecoach, a 1 1/2-mile train ride or on horseback. Saturday's auction drew about 500 people and raised at least $70,000.
