Caroline Elsesser Webb June 24, 1913 - March 1, 2009
Caroline Webb passed away March 1, 2009 at the Maurice House Assisted Living.
Mrs. Webb was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Peter and Caroline (Leabolt) Elsesser.
In 1932 she married LeRoy Webb which began a fifty-six year union. While in Philadelphia she worked in a variety of positions. During the early 1950s she opened the Whitehouse Restaurant whose motto was "You Eat the Best, We Eat What's Left."
In 1955 she relocated to Matt's Landing (near Leesburg, NJ) and opened the "Driftwood" marina and restaurant.
In 1969 she moved to Mauricetown and spent her time restoring a circa 1830 house that was originally a millinery shop. She also opened her own antique business "The Pump House," which was housed in a circa 1920 SUNOCO service station. She was an active member of the Mauricetown United Methodist Church as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and assisted with the Men's Bible Breakfast. She participated in caring for the Mauricetown elderly, fund raising for children's Malaga Camp, and Treasurer of United Methodist Women's Society. She received a number of accolades for her volunteer work with the Millville Division of the South Jersey Hospital System.
Preceding her in death was her husband, LeRoy and two grandchildren Roy Quinn and Troy Valenti. She is survived by daughters; Catherine D. Schiedegg (Al) and Nancy J. Webb of Sebastian, FL, and Carol A. Dunn (Larry) of Alloway, NJ, and son LeRoy M. Webb (Connie) of Pensacola, FL; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Mauricetown Methodist Church at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m.. Interment to follow at Haleyville United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1244 Delsea Dr., Vineland, NJ, Ranch Hope for Boys, Box 325, Alloway, NJ, or Mauricetown United Methodist Church, 9574 Noble St, Mauricetown, NJ.
