Uncle Bennie Gilman has been connected with the M.E. Church of Flanagan since its organization.
Benjamin S. Gilman was born in Roadstown, Cumberland County, New Jersey. He married Mary Hitchner September 18, 1845 in New Jersey. To this union six children were born, five of whom are living. In 1856 Benjamin and family came to Illinois. Most of the ensuing years have been spent on his farm near Flanagan. Mary died in 1870. He married Mary Jane Bowen in April of 1872. From this marriage two children were born.
