Hello Robert,
My name is JC Henry and I am researching the BOZARTH family. I have a Catherine BOZARTH b. 1850 d. 1883 in Landis Twp. Cumberland, NJ. Catherine had four children as follows:
Elizabeth A. HARRIS b. 1872 Benjamin D. HARRIS b. 1872 Rachel A. HARRIS b. 1876 Mary E. HARRIS b. 1879 d. 1879
The father is these children is named in birth records as Lorenzo HARRIS, however, when Catherine died, she was described as Catherine BOZARTH (widow). I have never found Catherine and Lorenzo in census together, only Catherine and the children.
Her son Benjamin is listed in 1880 census and again in 1900 census (JUNE) living with his grandfather Daniel Ivins BOZARTH and listed as Benjamin HARRIS, however, when he marries in Oct 1900 to Daisy ABRAMS, he uses the name Benjamin BOZARTH and gives his grandfather's name as his father. And BOZARTH is the name he uses for the rest of his life.
I have found 2 men named Lorenzo HARRIS in the same time frame. One is the one you have listed s/o Joseph marrying Elizabeth WELLINGTON and . The other is Lorenzo s/o John and Rachel HARRIS.
I have been unable to come up with a marriage cert or any marriage information for Catherine and Lorenzo.
I find Catherine in the 1880 census listed as Catherine E. HARRIS (married), with her two living daughters and her brother Daniel. Benjamin, as I stated was living with his grandparents.
I am wondering, since you are a HARRIS researcher, if you might have any information.
Thank you for any insight you may be able to provide.
Regards, JC Henry. |
Note* | | Based on the date Lorenzo married Elizabeth Wellington it may be that Samuel Harris was Lucinda's father, otherwise Lucinda was born before the marriage took place. |
Occupation | 1880 | He was laborer in 1880 at Downe Twp., Cumberland Co., New Jersey.13 |

Residence* | 23 December 1890 | He lived on 23 December 1890 at Cumberland Co., New Jersey; Dec 23 1890 Lorenzo Harris moved from Bivalve to Bradway Station yesterday.14 |

DIED
HOWEY--In Cedarville, N.J,, Feb 16, 1916[sic -obviously a typo], Lucinda W., wife of Robert L. Howey, aged 29 years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from her husband's residence on Thursday morning at 10.30. Services at residence. Interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
- [S314] Unknown author, Cemetery Records, Lot C-93 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cedarville, Lawrence Twp., Cumberland Co., NJ.
This information was gathered based on email from Allan Willis, the cemetery caretaker in January 2014 by email. He stated there were handwritten notes in the register. Based on his record of the notes this is what I have been able to construct along with other records I have gathered.
Lot owner Robert L. Howey (Sr.)– the original purchaser would have been by him. He lived from 1873-1951 and was my great-grandfather. He is NOT buried in this lot but is interred at Old Stone Church in Fairton.
Robert L. Howey, Jr. 1905-1964, my grandfather, is NOT buried in this lot. He is buried in Centre Grove.
Grave 6 John?
This would be Jonathan Moses Howey 1869-1921, brother of Robert L. Howey, Sr. His death certificate and obituary indicate burial at Cedar Hill on April 18, 1921.
Grave 5 Debbie?
This would be the wife of Jonathan Moses Howey, Deborah A. (Harris) Howey 1881-1922. Her death certificate and obituary indicate burial at Cedar Hill on November 21, 1922.
Grave 4 – Grandmother?
This one depends on who was the person who said it was their grandmother but very likely is Hannah (Shaw) Howey 1855-1916, mother of Robert L. Howey, Sr. Her death certificate and obituary indicate burial at Cedar Hill on February 15, 1916.
Monument space - Baby? This would be Margarette Howey (1913-1914), infant daughter of Robert L. Sr. and Lucinda (in grave 3) who died in the month following her mother. Death certificate indicates burial at Cedar Hill on March 27, 1914.
Grave 3 – Mrs. Robert L.
Lucinda Williams (Harris) Howey 1886-1914, wife of Robert L Howey, Sr. Her death certificate and obituary indicate burial at Cedar Hill on February 19, 1914. Lucinda died young with TB and I suspect her death would have been the reason to purchase the lot.
Graves 2 and 1– None?
I have no other records that indicate other members of the Howey family that may be buried in this cemetery (except those in C-80). The father of Robert L. Howey, Sr. was Edward Lewis Howey who died January 28, 1932. The death certificate indicates he was buried at CENTER GROVE however I’m a little surprised he would not have been buried in this lot.
