* * MY REILING/REYLING FAMILY * *

The earliest known Reiling in the village of Ersingen, Baden, Germany goes back to 1581. Ersingen is in the District of Enzkreis, about 4.6 miles from Pforzheim in the north-west area of Baden-Wurttemberg. Reiling families are still among the most predominant. We have 4th cousins there, descendants of Josef Adrian Reiling -- brother of Lorenz.

My great great grandfather is listed with different spellings on different documents. Among them are Marcus Laurentius Reyling, Lorenze Reyling, Laurence Reiling.
He was born 25 April, 1807 in Ersingen, Baden, Germany to Georgio Martino REYLING & Magdalena SCHUSTER. He came to America on the 30 passenger packet vessel "Olympia" which came from LeHavre & arrived in New Orleans November 7, 1830. Passport of Marcus Lorenz Reiling

It appears he spent time in Wheeling, Virginia and Baltimore but settled in Harrison Township & Brown Township, Carroll Co. Ohio. He took the oath for the United States in 1833 in Carroll Co. Ohio.
He married Therese/Therasa 'Teracy' STOLTZ, daughter of Jean/Johann STOLTZ & Maria Anna SCHMITT.
Laurence died 7 August 1869 & Teracy died 24 July 1895, both in Carroll Co. Ohio.

THERASA 'TERACY' & SOME OF HER GRANDCHILDREN AT THE REILING HOME IN BROWN TOWNSHIP, CARROLL CO. OHIO

Teracy (center) as she was known, was born March 8, 1816, in Waldighoffen, Canton of Hirsingue, Haut-Rhin, France. She died 24 July 1895 in Brown Township, Carroll Co. Ohio. Her parents are Jean/Johann/John STOLTZ & Maria Anna SCHMITT. A 1968 distant family obit mentions her father (name of Andrew mistaken for another family member) as a soldier under Napolean Bonaparte during the Russian Campaign. John Stoltz is buried in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Malvern, Carroll Co. Ohio.

Document signed August 25, 1869 by all children agreed to permit their widowed mother to remain on the farm property of 100 acres in Brown Township, Carroll Co. Ohio. This was not recorded with the County until December 1873.
