On 18 February 1839, he married Margaret Stipp [3], who was born in 1817 and died 03 March 1840. She was 23 and is buried in Bourneville Methodist Cemetery, Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio [4] (REF. 4. Margaret Purget was born in Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio in 1840 [5]. Vital Records Index - North America (FHL CD), Margaret married John J. Schultz on 28 March 1875 in Iroquois county, Illinois [6] (FHL No. 1321548). She became step-mother to his children: Philip, Osborn, Ivy, and two daughters [7].
Sometime in 1840, Henry moved to Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana, securing a tract of land which was covered with beech trees. He cleared the timber and there made his home. He returned to Ross County, Ohio and in ca. 1841 married Lydia Mustard of Pike County, Ohio (b. 21 August 1825 and died 28 November 1891 [8] - ref. funeral card, buried Belmont Cemetery, Illinois). On 18 February 1842 they returned to Indiana and took Margaret with them. While living in Indiana, they had 12 more children. The 13th child was born in Illinois [9]. (ref. census, Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana: 1850 - p. 158B lists Henry, age 32, farmer; Lydia, age 26; Margaret, age 9; Frederick, age 7; Eleanor, age 6, George C., age 5; Henry S., age 3; and William S., age 5 mo. and the 1860 census). On the same page in the 1850 census are listed George Mustard, age 61, farmer, b. VA; Eleanor, age 61, b. VA; and Elizabeth, age 21, b. VA. George and Eleanor may be the parents of Lydia. Also in this census are an Enos Mustard, age 37, b. OH and Henry Mustard, age 29, b. OH, who may be brothers of Lydia. FHL IGI record lists a George Mustard m. Elenora Delay in 1810 in Ross county, Ohio [10] (Batch No. 8704301, Source Call No. 1396309, Sheet 30). In February 1865 they moved to Belmont Township, Section 11, Iroquois County, Illinois and bought 270 acres of land. As of 1893, Henry owned 240 acres, all in one body, and an 80 acre tract nearby. He was very successful and his farm was considered quite valuable. He belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church and gave liberally to its support. His first presidential vote was for William Henry Harrison and his last ballot for the grandson, William Benjamin Harrison. He was a Whig and then a Republican. Read Henry's biography. Lydia died in 1891 and in July of 1893, Henry made out his will [12] (ref. Copies of will, trusteeship and sale documents from Frank and Iris Purget, Hulbert, Oklahoma). In his will he directs his trustees, John Davis and Josiah Williams to first pay all his children $375. With the exception of Frederick, to make up for the value of a team of mules advanced to him. Then he directs them to sell everything and after bills, to divide equally the balance among his children. The one exception being that the trustees give to one of his daughters sums from time to time and invest the rest and at her death should go to her children. But . . . "that the husband of my daughter shall not receive nor have control of any part . . . and carry out this part of my will strictly." Henry died 21 April 21 1895. The public auction was held on Tuesday, 28 May 1895 with two conditions. Anything under $5 was to be paid in cash and all sums over $5, a credit of 12 months, upon approval, at 7% interest. The sale netted over $20,000.
