Georgia Bailey, age 61, of Northwood and formerly of East Toledo, was taken into the Lord’s hands after a long illness. She passed away on Saturday evening, August 17, 2002, in the comfort of her home, in the company of her loving family. She was born on June 17, 1941, to Chester and Elizabeth (Youster) Foust. Georgia’s accomplishments include, a graduate of Davis Junior College and Edison Community College, a longtime employee of the former Bargain City and Frost Top in 1960’s; in the early 70’s she was the first woman to work for Tarta Bus in the customer service department and ticket booth at Madison and Superior. In 1973, she was the first female deputy at the Punta Gorda Police and Sheriffs Department, where she was an expert marksman. In 1979, she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Room and in 1982, she became the first woman to become a volunteer paramedic and a firefighter for the Northwood Fire Department. From 1982 to 1986 she was an active reservist in the Navy for Bayview Armory and held numerous security positions. A master accordionist at 11 years old and played on WSPD Radio on Sundays on "Sharon and Chet’s Party". She was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Georgia enjoyed playing the organ, writing poetry, doing yard work, camping and boating, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with their family and accepting new challenges. She was admired and respected by all who came in her path.
Surviving are her loving husband and grade school sweetheart of 49 years, Earl Bailey; daughters, Robin Wieczorek and Kelly (Bill) Bradfield; son Guy (Beth) Bailey; sister and best friend who she shared a special bond, Jeanette Wilson. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; son Rodney Bailey; grandson, Ryan Hodge; son-in-law, Stanley Wieczorek, and brother-in-law, Charles Wilson.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m., where the Northwood Fire Department will hold service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with visitation beginning after 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
