WEEKEND MISHAPS CLAIM TWO LIVES

DRIVERS SAY MEN WALKED IN FRONT OF CARS

1 VICTIM UNIDENTIFED

Two men were fatally injured in weekend accidents in
Oakland County and numerous other persons were injured.

The dead:
AN UNIDENTIFIED MAN, about 60 years old.



JAY SALIARD, 69 years old who resided on Perry road, two miles north of Five Points.
He was walking along Perry road about 500 feet north of the Rochester road at 8:50 p.m. Saturday whe he stepped in front of an automobile and was knocked to the side of the road.

Rushed to Hospital

The driver of the car was Lloyd Gilbert 45 years old, of Metamora, who was headed north. Gilbert said he did not see Saliard until the man stepped into the path of the car. Gilbert said he believed the impact hurled the man back into the weeds.
Gilbert stopped, placed Saliard into the automobile and took him to General Hospital where it was found he had suffered concussion of the brain and was in critical condition. He died at 11:25 p.m.
Patrolman Milford Walker and Nelson R. Webb investigated and brought Gilbert and his companion to the police station. Efforts to locate a representative of the prosecutor's office were unsuccessful and Gilbert was instructed to appear this morning to make a formal statement.
Coroner G. Dewey Kimball was summoned to investigate the accident. He said he could see no reason to hold an inquest.
Unidentified Man Killed

Mr. Saliard was born in Oakland Township Oct. 4, 1865, and was 68 years old. He resided in Oakland County his entire life and was a laborer. He is survived by his widow Inez and the following children.
Mrs. Cassie Lawerence of Ortonville, Mrs. Ethel LaFountain, Bryan Saliard, and Mrs. Winnie Jones of Pontiac; LaVerne Saliard of North Farmington and Mahlon Saliard of Rochester.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Voorhees chapel. Burial will be in Dryden. His residence was at 2747 Perry road.
