LaVerne G. Smith, 65, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2002, in her residence surrounded by her loving family. LaVerne was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 3, 1937, to Aldis and Eva (Bailey) McConnell. On June 11, 1954. LaVerne married Billy G. Smith. She was a member of Echo Meadows Church of Christ for 44 years, where she taught bible school for over 25 years. LaVerne was known for her excellent cooking skills. She was given the gift of being a hospitable person and a very generous person giving to others brought her great joy. With this gift she touched the lives of many, many people.
LaVerne is survived by her husband, Billy G.; children, Pamela Smith, Debbie (Ray) Jeffers, Glenn (Lisa) Smith and Glenda Moyer; grandchildren, Billy, April, Alli Jeffers, Cory, Tyler and Kristen Smith; sisters, Barbara Addison, Eileen Jenkins, Arlene Dell, Doral Galloway and Neva Hall, and brothers, Dwaine "Sonny" and Joseph McConnell. Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Bruce, Glen, Fredrick, and Lowell McConnell, and sisters, Selma Chisholm, Agnes Glanzman, Verda Largent and Ella Tallent.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at Echo Meadows Church of Christ, 2905 Starr Avenue, at 11 a.m. where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in LaVerne’s memory are asked to consider Echo Meadows Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
