My Mc Closkey Connections My Mc Closkey Connections
By Michael W. Caughey

Thomas Mc Closkey, father-in-law of my son, married Rosaleen Tierney in St. Peter's Cathedral, Belfast. He was born on 23 Oct 1923 in Belfast and died on 16 July 1999, in Warrenpoint, Co. Down, after a long illness and is buried there. I am so sorry he did not enjoy better health during his retirement. He was employed by Post Office Telephone.
His parents... John Mc Closkey and Catherine Lydster.

MACCLOSKEY (also Glasgow and MacCluskey)
MacCluskeys are found in Dublin (of Ulster origin) but apart from these MacCloskey, Glasgow and MacCluskey are found almost exclusively in Ulster. MacCloskey is most numerous in Co. Derry, where it is among the ten most numerous names, and MacCluskey in Co. Antrim.
The names were originally Mac Bhloscaidh, a branch of the O'Kanes, and descend from one Bloskey O'Cahan recorded in the annals as slayer of Murtagh O'Loughlin and heir to the throne of Ireland in 1196.
At the time of the first Ordnance Survey in the early nineteenth century the MacCloskeys constituted nearly two-thirds of the population of the parish of Dungiven in Co. Derry, and by-names such as Roe MacCloskey, More MacCloskey and Dimond MacCloskey were needed to distinguish them.
