My mother married my father Samuel Caughey on 10 October 1922 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Clones, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. He was a driver in the Irish National Army at that time.
Her parents:
Father: Johnston Purdy, born 1861 in Clonwin, Co. Fermanagh, died 1912 in Clones, Co. Monaghan. He was a gasworker in Clones Gasworks, Gashouse Lane.
Mother: Mary Joanna Bushell, born Oakfield, Co. Fermanagh, 18 December 1865. Died 6 February 1922, Clones, Co. Monaghan. She was a shopkeeper and kept "fighting cocks".
Johnston was 23 when he married, 51 when he died and Mary was 18 when she married and 56 when she died. They lived at Annalore a few miles outside Clones and later in Annalore Street, Clones.

Born c. 1893 in Clones. Died in Toronto, Canada, 11 Jan 1922. Buried in Canada. She married a man called Bushell who was a butcher.
Michael Purdy died at age 68.
Born 20 June 1895 in Clones. Baptised 22 Jan 1895 at the Sacred Heart Church, Clones.Died 13 Feb. 1964 in Belfast.Buried in Milltown Cemetery, Belfast. He was a green grocer. He married Mary Ellen Mc Manus on 28 Jan. 1918 at the Sacred Heart Church, Clones.
Apparently a nickname given to someone (presumabley someone Anglo-Norman) who habitually explained "Pour Dieu" ! or "Pardiew"! makes this theory less absurd. The surname is not necessarily Scotts and may have originated in Normandy.
