John Shannon was my grandfather and married in Australia, as above. I know that he had brothers Robert and Thomas and entry details into Australia have been found but I cannot find where John Shannon arrived. Catherine Keogh (spouse of John Shannon) arrived in 1862 with her younger brother.
I have found from certificates obtained that the parents of John Shannon were: Thomas Shannon b.c1815 Cavan Ireland married Mary Blake and they remained in Ireland until their death. The only place name mentioned is Cavan, Ireland and I do not know what their Church would be. They were Roman Catholic and the father was a Farmer.

SHEELON/SHEVLIN, Catherine

tried and convicted at Co Fermanagh in 1851 for larceny. Sentenced to 7 years and transported to Tasmania, arriving in 1853.
Her native place was Co Donegal, she was 28 years of age, a housemaid and needlewoman.

Parents may have been dead as they were not stated.
She was Protestant and could read.
M: John William Smith another convict from Dublin (his native place). He was sentenced to 7 years for burglary in 1848 and arrived in Tasmania in1851. He was R.C. and could read and write.
He stated he had no relatives.
John and Catherine married in Tasmania in 1854 and had three children that I know of Mary Ann, Elizabeth and Margaret. Catherine died in 1877 of tuberculosis and John later remarried and had a large family.
SHEERANCarolI am researching the name SHEERAN and FARREL. John Sheeran married Mary Farrel in Ballyragget County Kilkenny around 1865. They had several children one of which was named Bridget born about 1872/73.
