TAYLORDick Dickinsonsearching for Robert Joseph TAYLOR, b. 1830 in Ireland, Son of Robert Joseph TAYLOR and Rebecca REALLA. Robert (jr) emigrated during the great famine, and appeared in Michigan in the 1850's. He may have spent some time in England before crossing to Canada and then to Michigan. One family legend has him as a stowaway on a ship (no ship name given). Some clues: Robert was a professional fisherman on the great lakes. He also was a drayman (possibly in winter). He served in the Union Navy during the civil war as a quartermaster on the gunboat Argosy in the Mississippi river campaigns. This is documented in pension applications. The sailing experience probably means his home was in a Coastal region of Ireland.
