George Tennant, local station agent for the Milwaukee railroad died suddenly while on duty, apperently suffering a stroke. Funeral services will be conducted at St Joseph's Catholic church Thursday morning at 10 by Rev. J J Sherrin. Burial will be in Choteau cemetery.
Tennant who came to Choteau 31 years ago from Canada, was born at Gretna Man. June 27 1886 son of Mr & Mrs Henry J Tennant. He was married to Mary R Hutcheson July 16 at Lothair.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters Mrs Norma Naylor of Seattle and Rosemary of Great Falls; two sons Walter of Atlanta, Ga and Terry of Klamath Falls Ore. a sister Mrs P H Buckley of Great Falls and two brothers A J in Seattle and E V in Lethbridge.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Security Benefit lodge. GEORGE NORMAN TENNANT, Choteau agent for the Milwaukee Railway company, has lived out his life on both sides of the international boundary line in western Canada and Montana, and prior to coming to Montana was in the Canadian government service.

He is a son of the late Henry Tennant, whose brief history is a record of remarkable
experience. He was a soldier in the British service for many years, and was a
representative of the British Empire either as a soldier or as a civilian employe [sic]
nearly all his life. He came to know many distinguished men in government and military
cirlces, and was the type of man whose character insured his constant respect and
esteem.

Henry Tennant was born in Bombay, India. When he was fourteen years of age he entered the British army and served as drummer boy with the British forces during the Crimean war, taking part in the famous siege of Sebastopol and was present at the "Charge of the Light Brigade" as [well as] Balaclava. Even at that early age he was awarded a clasp for his part in the siege and in the battle of Balaclava, and was also recipient of one of the Turkish medals distributed by the Turkish government among their allied forces in the British army Later Henry Tennant was awarded a medal in recognition of his twenty-five years of good conduct and performance of duty as a soldier by the British war department. He retired as color sergeant of his regiment, the Sixty-third
Manchester.

He made his first trip to Canada from England with the British army at the time of the
Fenian raid. When the regiment went back to England he resigned and remained in Canada, joining the government civil service. He settled at Goodrich, Ontario, where for a time he engaged in farming and two years later went out to Fort Garry, where the City of
Winnipeg was subsequently developed. He traveled west by boat from Saint Paul,
Minnesota. At Winnipeg he at once entered politics, and was elected a member of the
provincial legislature of Manitoba, serving several terms as a member of the
conservative party. Later he was Canadian collector of customs, and was holding that
office when he died at Coutts, Alberta, in 1913, at the age of seventy-six. He is
buried in the cemetery at Winnipeg.

Henry Tennant married in Cork, Ireland, Nano O'Connell, who was born there, and is of
the same family as Daniel O'Connell, the great Irish patriot and statesman.

She died at Lethbridge, Canada, two years before her husband. Of their family of seven sons and two daughters six of them are living. Mrs. P. H. Buckley, of Sweet Grass, Montana; Ed, of Lethbridge, Canada; Henry, of Coutts; Catherine, of Lethbridge; Abram, of Stockett, Montana; and George N. The deceased children were Thomas, who died in Alberta, Joseph, who died at Lethbridge, and Fred, who died when thirteen years of age while attending St. Boniface College in Winnipeg.

George Norman Tennant was born at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, June 27, 1886. When he was five years of age the parents moved to Coutts, Alberta, the international boundary line, and he grew up in an atmosphere that made him familiar with official routine. He finished his education at Lethbridge, and his first opportunities to learn the railroad business came as a messenger boy in the service of the Albert Railway & Coal Company, a narrow gauge line operating between Great Falls and Lethbridge. He learned telegraphy at Lethbridge and in 1906 he left the railway service to become an employe [sic] of the Confederate government as subcollector of customs at Coutts. In 1913 he was appointed a preventive officer and was then chief clerk to the collector of customs in 1914.

In 1916 he resigned from the Government service and came to Montana to become station agent for the Great Northern Railway at Choteau. He left the Great Northern to join the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific and for a short time was train dispatcher at Lewistown, but returned to Choteau as local agent at the time the railroads were turned back by the Government. He is a very capable representative of the railroad and has made himself popular as a local citizen of Choteau. He is secretary and treasurer of
the Lions Club, is a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Democrat in politics.

Mr. Tennant married at Lothair, Montana, in July, 1914, Miss Regina Hutcheson, of Red
Wing, Minnesota. Her father, W. L. Hutcheson, was born in Minnesota, was in the
hardware business at New Rockford, North Dakota, and in 1913 came to Montana, and is now a resident of Great Falls, engaged in the Government postal service. Mrs. Tennant was born in Minnesota in 1894 and was reared and educated at Red Wing. The other children of her parents were: Norbert, of Florida; Walter, a cattle man in Montana; Laura, wife of Herman Afflerbach, of Great Falls; Cecilia, a teacher at Galup, Montana; and Edward, of Great Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Tennant have a family of four children, Norma, Walter, Terrance and Rosemary Tennant.





He was married to Mary Regina Hutcheson (daughter of William L Hutcheson and Julie) on July 16, 1914 in USA-Montana-Liberty-Lothair. Mary Regina Hutcheson was born on September 29, 1894 in USA-Minnisota-Red Wing. She died on June 7, 1985 in USA-Wash-Puyallup. Newspaper Clippings

Mary Tennant dies June 7 in Washington
Mrs George N Tennant 90 died June 7 1985 at Puyallup Wash. where she was making a home with her daughter.
Cremation has taken place and services are planned at Choteau with rosary at St Joseph's Catholic Church on Wednesday June 19 and Mass at 10 am June 20.
Survivors include daughters Norma T Eto of Puyallup, Wash and Rosemary Perry of Tempe Arizona; sons Walter Tennant of Salinas Calif. and Terry Tennant of Klammath Falls Ore. nine grandchildren 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The Tennants lived at Chouteau for a number of years when George was a depot agent here.

Tennant Rites to be held at Choteau
Mrs George (Mary) Tennant a long time resident of Choteau died June 7 1985 at Puyallup Wash, following a massive stroke. She was 90 years old at the time of her death.
Mary Tennant was born Sept. 29 1894 at Red Wing Minn., the daughter of William and Julie Hutcheson. At the turn of the century the family moved from Minnesota to North Dakota, and on to Montana, settling on a homestead east of Lothair Mont. It was here she met and married George Tennant on July 16 1914. In 1919 Tennant, a railroad telegrapher, was hired by the Milwaukee Railroad as its agent in Choteau, a position he held until his death in March 1947.
During their life in Choteau they became well known for their musical talents. The Tennant orchestra played for hundreds of dances throughout the county and surrounding area. Mary Tennant an accomplished pianist, provided accompaniment for school plays and operettas, student soloists and local musical functions. For 25 years she was organist and choir mistress for St. Joseph's Catholic Church and pianist for the local Lions Club from its inception until the death of her husband in 1947.
After the death of her husband she remained in Choteau and was employed by Choteau Drug and for Wedum's store. In 1954 she moved to Kalmath Falls ore. to be near her son Terry, and daughter Rosemary. In 1969 she and her daughter moved to Tempe Ariz. and in March 1985 she left Tempe to spend sometime with her daughter, Norma Ito, in Puyallup Wash. and it was here that she died.
Mrs tennant is survived by four children; Norma Ito of Puyallup Wash. Walter Tennant of Salinas Calif. Terry Tennant of Klamath Falls Ore. and Rosemary Perry of Tempe. Ariz. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Rosary will be said on June 19 at St. Joseph's Church in Choteau at 7.30 p.m. and a funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 20 at 10.am Her ashes will be interred in the Choteau cemetery beside the grave of her husband. She died from massive stroke. George Norman Tennant and Mary Regina Hutcheson had the following children:
