eCabinet Project

Government gave the go-ahead in December 2001 for a landmark eGovernment project, which will transform the way Cabinet does business. The eCabinet project will place Ireland to the forefront in applying information and communication technologies for the entire Cabinet process.

This follows on from the engagement of PriceWaterhouseCoopers to carry out a feasibility study into the application of technologies for the Cabinet process. In particular they were to research best practice and the potential benefits of the application of ICTs to the Cabinet process, to identify the potential of technologies to deliver benefits, and, having consulted with key stakeholders, recommend the model to be adopted and an implementation approach.

Implementation Group

The Implementation Group is comprised of senior officials drawn from a wide range of Government Departments predominantly at Assistant Secretary level. The group is chaired by the Department of the Taoiseach. It was established in 1999 to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Government Action Plan on the Information Society across all Departments and the agencies under their aegis. The Group reports periodically to Government. With the establishment in summer 2001 of theCabinet Committeeon the information Society and the eStrategy Group of Secretaries General the Implementation Groups has been focused particularly on the development of eGovernment across the public service.
