Macken, Mackin, ó Maicín, ó Macáin A Gaelic surname derived from mac meaning ‘a son or youth’. There may have been a sept in Connacht and another in Oriel. According to Woulfe there was a Donegal sept Mac Maicín. In 1890 Macken was principally found in Mayo, Louth and Dublin, and Mackin was principally found in Monaghan, and the estimated number of bearers was 1,700.
