Marron, Marren, ó Mearáin A Gaelic surname derived from Mearán (diminutive of mear meaning ‘lively’). According to Woulfe there was a Mac Mhearáin sept of Westmeath. In 1890 Marron was principally found in Monaghan and Marren was principally found in Sligo, and the estimated number of bearers was 1,390.
