Moffatt, Moffat, Moffett, Moffet, Moffitt, Moffit A Scottish surname of local origin from the town of Moffat in Annandale, Dumfriesshire. In the late seventeenth century the Moffettis of the West Marche were considered to be amongst the unruly Border clans. In 1890 the surname was principally found in Antrim, Sligo and Tyrone, and the estimated number of bearers was 3,050 (all variants).
