Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery(Formerly known as I.O.O.F. or Odd Fellows)
John E. Briley Died Jan 4, 1888-91- at age 27 (Note: The headstone is very hard to read, appears to be ?? Memory??? scratched in above name. I am assumming it says 1888-91 because if it was 1881 then he would of been the first person buried here. but actually it could be any other date)
He is buried in Section 2, Block 3, Plot 17 and the plot record shows as belonging to the McBride Family. It is also noted that the plot was divided in half by a cement border and the Weather family is in the other half:
Other's buried in the same half of the plot are:

This headstone was hidden under a bush and when the bush was trimmed the headstone was found and had sunk into the ground where only about 6 inches was showing. Joe Moore discovered this headstone and has carefully been uncovering this head stone
This shows the double headstone,in back "the Infant headstone", "the bush in front of John E. Briley headstone" and the divided section from other half of this plot. Click here for a more close-up view of McBride Headstone

Please contact the County Coordinator if you have any information to share on this person. Was he related to the McBride's or was his headstone unnoticed when the McBride's purchased the plot?
When did he die, 1888 to 1891-?

Sharon -
Thank you so much for the posting (last year, I just found it) about John E.
Briley's headstone. Mary Elizabeth (Briley/Renfro) McBride is my great-great
grandmother. Mr. McBride was her second husband. My great grandmother, Bina
Alice Renfro, was born in 1888. I am surmising that John Briley was Mary
Elizabeth's brother.
Thank you again for the info. My other Mills County connections are through
George Marion O'Quinn (great great grandfather) and Benjamin Robert Casbeer
(great grandfather).
Keep up the awesome work!! What a fabulous site!
