GEORGE EDWARD McINTOSH George Edward McIntosh, son of the late James and Ann McIntosh died last Tuesday, September 18th in his 64th year.
A brother Fred, of Watford and one sister, Mrs. Walter Lucas (Ina), of Brigden, as well as a niece Mrs. Chris Hussey (Linda), of Corunna survive.
Funeral service was held on Friday afternoon at the Harper Funeral Home with interment in Wisbeach Cemetery, on Hwy. 22, northeast of Watford. Rev. John Cruickshank, of Corunna, officiated.
Pallbearers included: Lyle Cundick, Bill and Albert Williams, Jack Aitken, Don Ross and Blake Perry.

The death took place at his home on the Main Road, on Monday, of James McIntosh who had been in failing health for some months. The funeral took place Wednesday to the Wisbeach cemetery, the Rev. F. G. Newton conducting the services. Deceased was a resident of the neighborhood for the past 15 years and was highly respected. He leaves a widow and family of 7 sons and 2 daughters.

McIntosh - Hipkins A very pretty and happy event took place at the residence of Mr. Alfred Williams, Main Road, Warwick, on Wednesday, Dec. 19th, in the presence of about ninety invited guests, when his niece, Miss Annie Hipkins was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. James McIntosh, of the same place. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. F. G. Newton, while Miss E. Phillips played the wedding march. The bride looked charming attired in a costume of cream cashmere, trimmed with silk lace and ribbons, and carried a boquet of bridal roses. Miss Jennie Williams, of Detroit, also dressed in cream cashmere, and carrying a boquet of pink carnations, assisted the bride, the groom being ably supported by his brother, Mr. John McIntosh. After the ceremony was performed and congratulations exchanged, all present adjourned to the dining room and sat down to a table fairly groaning beneath the load of rich viande especially prepared for the occasion. One pleasing feature of the event was the large number of beautiful and costly presents to the bride, betokening not only a generous feeling on the part of the donors but a very high appreciation of her many amiable qualities. After spending a very pleasant evening in social intercourse, dancing and other amusements, the happy couple left for their future home amid the best wishes of their many friends present.

The explosion of a coal oil vapor stove caused the loss by fire of the large dwelling house and contents of Mr. James McIntosh, lot 25, Main Road, about 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. His daughter, Ina, about 15 years old, was alone in the house at the time of the explosion. For some time she had been ironing in the kitchen where the stove was, and fortunately had gone into the front part of the house for a few minutes when the explosion occurred, or undoubtedly she would have lost her life. Mr. McIntosh and his son were at the barn, a short distance away, hitching up a team, when they saw the flames and ran to the house. Ina immediately ran to the phone to call help. Apple packers in the orchard were on hand in a few minutes, but the fire gained headway so rapidly that only a few articles of furniture could be saved. In the cellar was a large quantity of fruit, also a number of apple barrels, a quantity of rubber hose and other stuff usually kept in the barn. The loss is a heavy one as there was only a small insurance on house and contents. Mrs. McIntosh was in Watford at the time. While the fire was at its height sparks from it ignited the barn of Mr. Wm. J. Evans across the road to the north, which was consumed with about ten tons of hay therein. His loss is also partly covered by insurance. His implements were all gotten out.

JAMES A. McINTOSH James A. McIntosh, a lifelong resident of Warwick Twp. and Watford, passed away here late Saturday evening, after a heart seizure that morning. Born in Lobo twp., he had lived since childhood in Warwick twp. He was 77 years of age, a staunch Conservative in politics, and for over 50 years an ardent member of the Masonic order.
Members of the surviving family include a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Ina) Lucas of Brigden; two sons, Fred of Warwick township and George of Strathroy; two grandchildren, Linda Ann and Eldon Lucas of Brigden; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Phillips, 330 south Brock street, Sarnia; four brothers, John and Reg of Watford, George of Toronto, and Norman of Forest. His wife died 19 years ago and a daughter Linda six years ago. He is also predeceased by two brothers.
The body rested at Harper Funeral Home, where service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. H. F. Cross, rector of Warwick, and the Masonic graveside service was conducted at Wisbeach by officers of his mother lodge, Arkona A.F. & A.M.

FORMER WARWICK NURSE PASSES SUDDENLY IN MICHIGAN Warwick township relatives were notified early Saturday morning of the sudden passing in Abion Hospital, Michigan, of Linda Alfreda McIntosh, former graduate nurse of Port Huron hospital, and beloved wife of James Hornbrook.
Born in Warwick township north of Watford 38 years ago, she had been on the nursing staff in Michigan hospitals until her marriage in 1933.
Surviving are her husband, of Homer, Michigan, her father Mr. James McIntosh, two brothers, Fred and George, all of Warwick, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Lucas, of Brigden. Her mother predeceased her 13 years ago.
Funeral service was held Monday afternoon at two o'clock in St. Paul's Anglican church, Wisbeach. The body rested at the church, which was open to friends after the arrival of the funeral cortege from Michigan at noon. Rev. W. E. Perry, rector, conducted the service and interment was in St. Paul's churchyard.
The pallbearers were: Messrs George and Ray Hierlehy, of Wyandotte; James Graham, of Port Huron; Bill Minielly, Franklin Adams, Bill Williams, all of Warwick.

MRS. ARTHUR TANNER Mrs. Arthur Tanner, a lifelong resident on the 2nd line south, passed away at her home on Tuesday afternoon following a heart attack. She had been in failing health in recent months.
Born in Warwick Township, of pioneer parents, Mrs. Tanner, who was in her 72nd year, was formerly Matilda Mary Minielly. Her husband predeceased her nine years ago, in June 1932, following a fall from a load of hay in the field.
Surviving are one son, Fred, and one daughter, Miss Mary, both at home; also one sister, Mrs. J. I. Dixon, of Windsor.
The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, with service at the family home, lot 22, con. 2, S.E.R., at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. H. F. Cross, of Warwick and Wisbeach Anglican churches, will conduct the service, with Rev. W. T. Eddy, of Zion United church, assisting. Interment will be in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach.

Another of the pioneers of the township passed on Monday when Mr. Richard Moore, lot 22, Main Road, was called at the advanced age of 80 years. He had been in poor health for some years. He was born in the township and lived [the] best part of his life on the farm where he died. He never married. He is survived by one sister, Miss Elizabeth, who lived with him. The funeral was held on Wednesday to Wisbeach cemetery, service being held in the church by Rev. W. M. Shore. The pall bearers were Robt. McGillicuddy, Geo. Baird, Richard Adams, John Minielly, Geo. Bryson and W. Gorman.

The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon with service in Trinity church, following a private family service at the residence. Rev. J. H. Hosford, rector, was in charge of the service and the pallbearers were Messrs. Earl Morgan, Detroit; Russel Anderson, Fred and Willard Morgan of Warwick; Harold Greer and Frank Morgan, Brooke.

MRS. MARY MORGAN Another of the pioneers of Warwick passed away on Thursday, March 24th, in the person of Mrs. Mary Morgan. Of late years she has been confined to her bed with rheumatism, and on Wednesday she suffered a stroke from which she did not recover. Although she has been a great sufferer for many years she has borne her pain with true Christian fortitude, and her loss will be felt by a large circle of friends.
Mrs. Morgan was born in Adelaide township in 1839, the second daughter of David and Anna Morgan. In 1857 she was married to Robert Morgan and came with him to live on the fourth line of Warwick, where she lived until his death in 1890. Since then she has made her home in Watford.
She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, George of Detroit, and James of Lacadena, Sask., also four daughters, Mrs. Jennie Lee, Lacadena, Sask; Mrs John Greer, Brooke and Mrs. W. A. Goodbourn and Mrs. Fred Hume, of London. One brother, David Morgan, of Watford, and four sisters, Mrs. McIllmurray, Watford; Mrs. Fitzsimons, Port Huron, Mich; Mrs. Stong, Sarnia, and Mrs. Johns, Grand Rapids, Mich., also survive. A son, Robert, and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Brock, predeceased her some years ago.
The funeral was held on Saturday, March 26th, with a private service at her late home, Erie street, followed by a largely attended service at Trinity Church. Both services were conducted by the Rev. J. H. Hosford. Interment was made at Wisbeach cemetery. The pallbearers were four grandsons, Earl and Frank Morgan, Harold Greer and Russell Anderson, and two nephews Willard and Fred Morgan.
The many beautiful floral offerings were a tribute to the high esteem in which Mrs. Morgan was held by all who knew her.

He leaves a wife and ten children to mourn his loss. The funeral takes place to-day (Friday) to the Wisbeach cemetery.

ARTHUR MUXLOW Friends and relatives were shocked last Saturday to learn of the sudden passing of Arthur Muxlow, 72, life-long farmer of Warwick twp. and a resident of Watford in recent years. He experienced a brain hemhorrage and passed away within a few hours in Strathroy hospital.
Surviving are his wife, formerly Sylvia Routley, and three daughters, Mrs. Andrew Ward [Phyllis] of Sarnia; Mrs. Howard Woods [Zella] of Warwick Village, and Mrs. Bruce Sharpe, [Joyce] of Watford, with several grandchildren and one great grandchild; also one brother, Abram, of Arkona, and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Marshall, of Strathroy. Two brothers, John P. and Russell, and one sister, Mary Jane, predeceased him.
Rested at Harper Funeral Home, where service was conducted on Monday afternoon by Mrs. Kemsley, of Mt. Zion Assembly, Watford. During the service, Mrs. Courtenay, of Forest, with Anne Marie Kemsley as accompanist, contributed a pleasing solo.
Interment was in Wisbeach cemetery; the pallbearers were Carman and Homer Hall, of Warwick, Edward Burns, Glen Shea, Alfred Coneybeare and Silas Werden, of Watford.

JOHN MUXLOW DEAD AT STRATHROY John Muxlow, former well known Warwick township farmer, died on Tuesday evening at his home in Strathroy, in his 73rd year. Mr. Muxlow, who had been in failing health for some time was a native of Lincolnshire, England, a son of the late Thomas and Mary Muxlow, and came to Canada 52 years ago. He settled first in Warwick township where he farmed for many years before moving to Strathroy 10 years ago. He was a member of the Anglican church and being of a gentle disposition made many friends.
He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. William Marshall, of Arkona, and Mrs. Mac Perry, of Warwick; and four sons, John, of Strathroy; Abraham and Arthur, 2nd line north, Warwick; and Russell, of Biggar, Sask; one sister, Miss Isabel, in England; and three brothers Edward, of Strathroy; Isaac and Fred, both of Brown City, Mich. His wife, formerly Annie Sutton, predeceased him forty years ago.
A private funeral service will be held from his late residence, on Friday afternoon at 2:30 , with Rev. S. H. Brownlee conducting, and interment will be made in Wisbeach cemetery. The pallbearers will be Fred Parnell, F. D. Brookes, R. M. Trueman, Fred Nelson, William Hall and Fred Patterson.

A most distressing and fatal accident befell the four-year-old son of Mr. Fred Patterson, cheese maker at Thompson’s factory, on Friday last. The little fellow was left at a neighbor’s while his parents were away for a short time, and by some means got hold of a bottle of carbolic acid and swallowed part of the contents. As soon as it was discovered that he had taken the poison he was at once taken to Arkona, but died on arriving at the doctor’s office. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr. and Mrs. Patterson in their bereavement, as the child was the only boy in the family.

CHARLES W. PATTERSON PASSES SUDDENLY Charles Wilfred Patterson, youngest son of Mr. Fred Patterson, of Warwick, died suddenly of a heart attack in London on Saturday evening in his 45th year. Since returning from Florida two years ago, where for several years he owned a citrus fruit farm out of Tampa, he had been doing war work at the Central Aircraft plant at Crumlin.
Surviving are his aged father, and one sister, Miss Edith, on No. 7 highway, south of Arkona, and one brother, Cecil Patterson, on the teaching staff at University of Saskatoon, who hurried east for the funeral service.
Rev. H. F. Cross, of Warwick Anglican churches conducted a private service at the family home on Wednesday at three o'clock, and interment was in Wisbeach cemetery.

MISS EDITH PATTERSON The death occurred in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Toronto, on Monday, January 30, of Miss Edith Patterson, 68, last surviving daughter of the late Fred C. Patterson and Mary Thompson Patterson, lifelong residents of No. 7 Highway south of Arkona.
As a young woman she taught for several years in Arkona Continuation school and for the past 20 years has resided in Toronto.
Only survivor of the family is now Dr. Cecil Patterson, of Saskatoon, recently retired head of the horticulture division at University of Saskatchewan; also four nephews, Gordon Hawken, Stratford, La Verne Hawken, Arkona, Wilfred Eastman, Detroit, Fred Patterson, Winnipeg, and two nieces, Mrs. Bruce Siddall, Forest and Mrs. Leslie Sarsfield, Alberta.
The body rested at Harper Funeral Home, Watford, where service was conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Eric Richards, rector of Warwick, with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach.
Pallbearers were Dr. Hamlet Thompson, Arkona, Burton and Franklin Campbell, Carman, Milton and Gilbert Hall, all of Warwick.

Fred T. Eastman, Camp Gordon, Georgia. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R. M. Crissman in the presence of a few of the immediate relatives of the contracting parties. The bride was attired in a taupe taffeta dress and both were unattended.

Mr. Fred Patterson, 2nd line, received a telegram from Georgia, last Friday, announcing the death of his youngest daughter, Mrs. Fred Eastman (Flossie). Mr. Patterson and nephew, Walter Hall, left on Saturday to bring the body home. The funeral took place on Thursday to Wisbeach cemetery.

Death of Mrs. F. T. Eastman On Thursday, Nov. 21st, the relatives and friends of Mrs. F. T. Eastman (nee Flossie Patterson) were shocked when a telegram from Atlanta, Ga., notified them of her death. The deceased had become afflicted with Spanish Influenza and this, followed by pneumonia and other complications, resulted in death.
The remains arrived from Atlanta, on the following Wednesday accompanied by her father, Mr. Fred Patterson, and her cousin, Mr. Walter Hall. On Thursday, Nov. 28, a private funeral was held from the residence of her parents, lot 24, con. 2, N. E. R., Warwick and interment at Wisbeach Cemetery, Rev. W. M. Shore, Rector of Wisbeach church, conducting the services. The pall-bearers were six cousins of the deceased, Berton Campbell, Russel Hall, Clare Rea, Carman Hall, Lloyd and George Hall.
Mrs. Eastman was the wife of Pte. F. T. Eastman, who is now with the American Army in France, and the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Patterson. Being a young woman of sterling qualities, endowed with exceptional ability and possessing a sunny disposition she endeared herself to those with whom she came in contact.

Fred Patterson Dies In Saskatoon; Funeral in Watford Saturday Fred Patterson, a former well-known Warwick township resident for over 70 years, died in Saskatoon on Monday where he has been residing for the past three years with his son. He was in his 90th year. Born at Dundas, he came to Arkona as a young man as cheese-maker at the Arkona factory. Later he settled on a farm on No. 7 Highway south of Arkona, where he continued to reside throughout his long lifetime until he went West. He was one of the first members to join Arkona Masonic Lodge when it was instituted in 1891 and throughout the 50 years was an active Mason. Mrs. Patterson, who was formerly Mary Thompson, passed away several years ago, as did four of his sons and daughters, Gordon, Charles, Mrs. Fred Eastman and Mrs. George Hawken. Surviving are one daughter, and one son, Miss Edith Patterson of Toronto, and Dr. Cecil Patterson, of University of Saskatchewan staff at Saskatoon. On arrival from the West on Friday, the body will rest at the Harper Funeral Home, Watford, where service will be held on Saturday at two p.m. Rev. H. F. Cross, rector of St. Paul's church, Wisbeach, will conduct the service. Interment will be at Wisbeach cemetery, where the officers and members of Arkona Masonic Lodge will conduct the graveside service.

An item in the London Free Press last Saturday says that Private Gordon Patterson, a Watford recruit with the 33rd Battalion, is suffering from a serious attack of spinal meningitis. When he was first taken to Victoria Hospital, Private Patterson was in bad shape, and his chances for recovery were said to be small.

Pte. Gordon Patterson Buried With Military Honors Pte. Gordon H. Patterson, with the 33rd Batt. C. E. F., London, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Patterson, of Warwick, who contracted cerebro-spinal meningitis while in the military hospital at Wolesley Barracks, died at Victoria hospital, London, on Friday afternoon May 7th. He enlisted in the battalion on March 30th, and was in his 20th year. During the short time he was in training he became a general favorite with his comrades. He was one of the most promising soldiers in the battalion and was deeply interested in military life. He was educated at the Watford High School and before enlisting taught school in Warwick township. He was a young man of pleasing personality and popular with all who knew him, especially so with those intimately acquainted with him, and his untimely death at the commencement of an apparently promising career cast a gloom over the whole community.
The funeral was held on Monday with all the military honors due to a soldier of his rank. The services at the London Hospital were conducted by Capt. Peacock, chaplain of the regiment. Led by Lieut.-Col. Wilson the cortege, including a band and escort, left the hospital and proceeded to the Grand Trunk station, where the remains, accompanied by relatives and friends of the deceased and a squad of the 33rd Batt., entrained for Watford.
Arriving at the Watford station at 3 p.m. the party was met by a detachment of the 27th Regt., under command of Sergt. Davies. A large concourse of people had assembled to do honor to the deceased, who was well known and highly esteemed in Watford. The funeral procession was formed and proceeded through the town in the following order :-
Guard of 27th Regt., 24 strong, with rifles reversed.
Hearse, and six military pall bearers.
Detachment of 33rd Batt., 24 strong, under command of Sergt.-Major G. W. Smith. Bugler. Lieut.-Col. Kelly, Lieut.-Col. Kenward, Captains and Lieutenants of 27th Regt.
Rev. W. M. Shore, officiating clergyman.
Public School children (about 175). About 75 carriages.
The large crowd on foot respectfully accompanied the cortege through the village. On arriving at the outskirts the military men took autos to Wisbeach cemetery.
On arriving at Wisbeach church the casket was carried on the shoulders of the bearers into the building, where the burial service of the Anglican church was read and a short address delivered by Rev. W. Murton Shore, the rector. The remains were then conveyed to the grave, where committal was made by the rector and a short prayer said by Rev. S. P. Irwin, chaplain of the 27th.
The firing party, commanded by Sergt. Davies, then discharged a farewell salute and the bugler sounded the "Last Post." The entire proceedings were of an exceedingly solemn and impressive nature.
Deceased was unmarried. Besides his parents he leaves two brothers and three sisters, Cecil F., Charles W., Mrs. George Hawkin and Misses Edith and Flossie, all of Warwick township.

MRS. GEORGE HAWKEN Mrs. George Hawken, a well-known resident of the Warwick-Adelaide townline, passed away suddenly of heart failure in her bed on Friday morning. With her husband she had attended the rodeo at Strathroy fair the evening previous and retired to bed apparently in usual health.
Born in Warwick as Mary Alberta Patterson, she was in her 57th year, and throughout her lifetime was an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Wisbeach where the funeral service was held on Monday afternoon conducted by her former rector, Rev. E. C. Jennings, of London.
Surviving are her husband, two sons and one daughter: Gordon, in the RCAF just moved last week to the West, La Verne, in war industries in Hamilton, and Miss Doreen, attending Technical School in London; also her father Mr. Fred Patterson, No. 7 Highway, Warwick, one sister, Miss Edith Patterson at home with her father, and two brothers, Cecil, of Saskatoon and Charles, of Fort Erie.
The pallbearers were Asahel and William Bryson, William Howden, Walter Wilson, George Iles and Eugene Williams.
Interment was delayed from Monday to Tuesday when a son, Gordon, coming home from Edmonton was delayed by train for 14 hours by storms and washouts in Northern and Western Ontario.
