Some Major Families in Our Family Tree

bullet Snow ENG>MA>ME
- this family can trace its origins back to the Mayflower who arrived at Plymouth Mass. in 1620. On the ship was Stephen Hopkins, his new wife, and his children by his first wife. Half way across the Atlantic Ocean, Stephen's wife gave birth to a son , Oceanus, who became the first child born on the Mayflower. A second child was to be born on the Mayflower, to another family, but while it was in the bay off the coast of Plymouth, and not at sea. Stephen's oldest daughter, Constance, married in 1627, Nicholas Snow who arrive in 1623, on the HMS Anne. They went on to have 12 children many of whom survived into adulthood and have left a legacy of many familes who can trace thier lineage back to the Mayflower through them. This family also saw parts of it move to maine, after the American Revolution, and remains there to this day. A good source for information on the Hopkins and Snow familes is "Mayflower Families through 5 Generations" - Vol. 6 Stephen Hopkins - By The General Society of Mayflower Descendents, published in 1995. This book has information on the family though the 5th generation, or shortly before the American Revolution. Stephen Hopkins was a prominent man in early Plymouth and reading about his exploits both in Plymouth and earlier in Bermuda where he and Constance were shipwrecked in 1607 makes for a good read.
