Family Group 2

Charles Ausburn, Robert Clyde and Nelda Buchanan, James Ausburn, Harry Ozburn, Milton Osborn, Gary Osborn, Darrell Osborn, Charles M Osborn, Paul Osborn, Jerry Osborn and Kevin T Ozburn

Caution, Warning, Disclaimer:  The ancestral lines shown below are the ancestors that each project member, highlighted in yellow, BELIEVES to be their ancestors.  Standards of proof or evidence used by each member may vary, and documentation for each ancestor may vary.  These listings alone should not be taken as proof of ancestry; they are shown here to facilitate the finding of a common ancestor by project members or by others who may wish to test to see if their ancestral lines connect to one of the members.  For more information, please contact the individual members at the email addresses listed below.

This group now has eleven members who are probably related, but none of them know how they might be related to anyone else in the group. The genetic distances would indicate that Charles, Robert Clyde Buchanan, and Kevin are very closely related; Milton and Gary E are closely related; that James and Harry are closely related; and that Jerry, Charles, Darrell, and Paul are closely related, but probably more distantly related to the others in this Family Group.  Looking at the Alleles table, Charles, Robert Clyde, Jerry and Kevin are perfect 12 marker matches; Milton and Gary are perfect 12 marker matches; James and Harry are perfect 12 marker matches; and Charles, Darrell, and Paul are perfect 12 marker matches. However, Charles, Darrell, and Paul differ from most of the others by one mutation on each of two different Alleles.  This makes them a genetic distance of 2 to some others in the FG, which normally would indicate that they are probably not related.  However this is the exact exceptional case mentioned in the explanation of relatedness by FTDNA for a genetic distance of two.  It is possible, and becoming more likely, that James and Harry have the ancestral haplotype, and that the other three lines have deviated by one mutation each from that, but on different Alleles.  They are the “in betweeners” referred to in the explanation.  It now seems likely that the common ancestor is further back than is known for any of the lines at the present time.

Charles Ausburn and Robert Clyde Buchanan are the closest match that can be demonstrated by the y-dna test at FTDNA at the present time, being an identical match on the 67 marker test.  Charles, Robert Clyde and Kevin T are identical on the 25 marker test.  According to the FTDNATip cumulative probabilites, there is a 90% probability that Charles and Robert Clyde are related within 4 generations, and 61% probability that Robert Clyde is related to Kevin T within 4 generations.

Gary E has traced his ancestors back to Devon, England in about 1644.  His line is one of the earliest in the project and possibly the only one at present who has traced his line back into England.

The dna test shows that Kevin is related to others in FG2 and is most closely related to Charles Ausburn and Jerry Osborn.  Kevin and Jerry have both had 25 marker tests done and even though they are a perfect match on 12 markers they are a genetic distance of 2 apart on the 25 marker test.  Comparing that to the 25 marker tests for people in FG1, where most have a genetic distance of 1 and only three have a genetic distance of 2, the common ancestor between Kevin and Jerry is likely back another 2 or 3 generations in the late 1700’s.

Contact:  To exchange information or inquire about Darrell, Charles’ and Barbara’s ancestors please email Darrell at < [email protected] >, or Barbara at < [email protected] >.

Barbara has databases on Rootsweb at: < http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1874115&id=I90018257 > and on GenCircles at < http://www.gencircles.com/users/bjramsey/1/data/1208 >, both starting at James Osborn, m Matilda Richmond.  Barbara also invites anyone who would like to visit her Pioneer Families of Camden Co. website to send her their full name and email address and she will send them an invitation from MyFamily.com.  Also, James Osborn-2497, m Matilda Richmond, is also listed as a son of Stephen Osborn-2428 on Osborne Origins at < http://home.att.net/~osborne-origins2/linkrecs/f2488.htm#R2488 >.

Before the dna test Darrell and Barbara had thought that they would probably be related to those people in Family Group 4, and indeed Darrell’s genetic distances to those in Family Group 4 are closer than to anyone else in the project.  On the 12 marker test, he is a genetic distance of only 2  from those in Subset (B).  However, on the 25 and 37 marker tests, which Darrell now has, the genetic distances continue to show that he is not related to Family Group 4.  In FG4, Nancy Jones is the person most likely to have the ancestral haplotype.  Comparing Darrell to Nancy Jones, the genetic distances are 6 on the 25 marker test, and 12 on the 37 marker tests, both indicating “Not Related” by FTDNA’s rules.  To further compare Darrell with Nancy and FG4, I have shown his alleles next to Nancy’s on this web page, where the differences between Darrell and Nancy are highlighted in green.  As can be seen on that page, Darrell and Nancy differ in 10 markers, and 3 of those are greater than one repeat value.  To quote FTDNA’s rule, “(for a mismatch of more than) 30/37 You are not related and the odds greatly favor that you have not shared a common male ancestor with this person within thousands of years.”  So the 25 and 37 marker tests continue to indicate that Darrell and Barbara are not related to FG4.
