There have been many variations of the finally Anlicized surname Kilmer.... Kuhlmer, Jilimer, Kuehimer, Julmer, Kolemer, Kolemere, Koolman, Killman, Kimmer, Kilimer, Kilimore plus a few more. A final resolution, made in 1840 by a frustrated school teacher in Gallatinville, funneled all of these into one common spelling and Kilmer was the lone suriviver. Of course we know Killmer is also used and probably other varistions. Could this explain the name spelled many ways.

2. Jesse didn't leave the area the county lines just kept changing so his daughter Mary could have met someone in the Valley to marry.
3. There was James and Jacob Kilmer on a tax list in 1836. Mary is at the right age to get married. My family tradition says Mary�s husband as a J. Kilmer.
4. My Mary Meador Heard was born 1811 in GA/TN.
5. I have copy of land deed for Benjamin Kilmer buying land with Jeremiah Early Heard who may be related t to Mary through marriage. The date for this deed is 1854. I need to find out if anyone knows who brought the land after Jesse and his family moves to MO.

Early Kilmer served in Co. D of the 3rd Missouri Cavalry as a Private. I believe he may have served with my (first name unknown) Duckworth who died prior to Oct. 14, 1864 (birthdate of his only child). Mr. Duckworth, according to family legend, was on his way home to check on his pregnant wife who we believe was in either Fulton or Izard Co., Arkansas. His wife was Sarah H. Jones b 1842 MS. Hawthorne's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department, and was active at Bayou Fourche and Helena where it reported 75 casualties. Later it saw action at Jenkins' Ferry and in April, 1865, disbanded. Its commanding officers were Colonels James P. King and Henry J. McCord, Lieutenant Colonel John W. Wallace, and Majors John J. Dillard and Mark T. Tatum.

3rd Cavalry Regiment was organized during the summer of 1862 with men from Springfield and Newtonia, and Polk County. Many of its members had seen prior service in the Missouri State Guard. It served in Shelby's, C. Green's, and J.B. Clark's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. The unit fought in Marmaduke's Expedition into Missouri, participated in numerous conflicts in Arkansas, and with Marmaduke, 9 at Helena, and 4 at Bayou Fourche. The party loaded the corn into wagons, and on April 18, Col. James M. Williams started his return to Camden. Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke�s and Brig. Gen. Samuel B. Maxey�s Confederate forces arrived at Lee Plantation, about fifteen miles from Camden, where they engaged Williams. The Rebels eventually attacked Williams in the front and rear forcing him to retreat north into a marsh where his men regrouped and then fell back to Camden. The Federals repulsed the attacks and finally crossed with all their men and supply wagons, many of which they were compelled to abandon in the swamp north of Saline.
