I would like to Thanks Susan Doell. For the Martin family update Nov 30,2001. She states in her email that her facts came from bible, obits, notes from my grandmother, etc. "My grandmother, Ruth Turcotte Poe, was very close to her mother-in-law, Euterpa Martin Poe. My grandmother died in 1998 at the age of 93 and I inherited all of the Martin family stuff". said Susan Doell.

There is mention of another child in the 1880 Census I wonder who he is?

In 1880 Wise Co. TX census, Moses L's household shows a son named Moses L, older than Sam E. He is 13.

Rev James Parkson (Rev) b 19 Feb 1819 In Lawrence , Al. d 1 Jan 1884 bured in Pleasant Grove Cemetery #2, Wise Co, TX m'd Mary Wilson Martin. His family consisted of 4 son and two daughters. One son and one daughters died in infancy.

1 Francis Marion Martin (b. 1844) was the son of James Parkson Martin.they stayed in Texas, and still live there. Francis is buried in Poolville Cemetery, in Parker Co., next to Wise County. As is Joseph Putnam, as is Bertha Maxine. All of Joseph Putnam's living children still reside in the Fort Worth area. They lived in and around Springtown, TX in the 1920s. Pam's mom, Bertha Maxine Martin, lived in Springtown her whole life, and her husband, Louis Knight (my father-in-law) still lives there. Mike Meyer email me about Fracis Marion Martin family. Mike states "Francis Marion Martin was my wife's great-grandfather. Her grandfather was Joseph Putnam Martin, born 1885. Her mom was Bertha Maxine Martin b. 1936"

Dr William Stenson Martin family list below

Phil Watson wrote Dr.William Stenson Martin my gg grandfather. He was born about 1829 in Lawrence County Alabama. died Feb. 25, 1890 in Oklahoma. This sound like my Martin. In OK was the place for his death near Thackerville, OK?

Will I am glad to say that Phil ggreatgrandfather is my Dr William Stenson Martin. The son of William and Virginia Martin. The brother of my Moses Lydell and James Parkson Martin

William and wife Lucy one of their daughters, Amanda Elizabeth married Isham Richardson. She died in 1941 and is buried in Fairlawn Cemetary in Snyder, OK. Other descendants lived in Snyder also. It is interesting that about 40 miles northwest of Thackerville there is a Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

I wonder if she had more??

Phil Watson answer to my question

Margaret Fashion Martin was born to Dr. Martin and Lucy on June 23, 1861 in Tishimingo Co, Miss. Unknown when she died. She married (Unknown when or where) William Westmoreland. He was born Apr 23, 1837

(unknown where) and died on Nov. 29 1909 and is buried in Childress, TX. Their son Fisher and wife Stella are buried in the same plot in Childress. Another son named Ernest married an unknown Dorothy. (Whereabouts unknown)

In 1880 Margaret would have been 19 years of age and probably living with her husband William Westmoreland, Sr.

The age gap between William Westmoreland, Sr. and Margaret Martin was 24 years. My belief is that the William Westmoreland listed as age 11 in 1880 was the 11 year old son of William Westmoreland, Sr. from an earlier marriage, and was living with Dr. Martin and Lucy.

I wonder if there were any more Westmoreland families listed in the 1880 Wise county census?

Notes for Ruth Deloma Turcotte: Ruth Deloma Turcotte was born in Walnut, Illinois in a private hospital owned by a Dr. Hopkins and his son. When she was 4, her family moved back to Pekin, North Dakota . Ruth spent the years between 8 and 15 in Catholic boarding schools in Devil's Lake, North Dakota, Winnipeg, Canada and Forget, Canada. Her parents separated in 1912 - her mother returning to her family in Kansas and her father traveling with the railroad. She and her sisters, Doris and Lillie, and brother, Robert, had been left in the care of their Turcotte grandparents at Stump Lake in North Dakota. Attending school there was virtually impossible with the harsh winters. If you were able to brave the weather to attend school you would find yourself often sick from the exposure. She told us many stories of her harsh and austere life in these various boarding schools. The Sisters of Mercy's academy in Devil's Lake was the first school the three were enrolled in. There were tunnels underground there linking the dormitories with the school building and church. Her sister, Doris, was barely three when they arrived there and Ruth told of quickly becoming a mother to her so she would not cry all night long. She saw that she was dressed, her hair curled, and that she behaved properly so not to anger the Sisters. It was here that her brother, Robert, died of appendicitis. This was an extremely painful occurence for her because the Sisters refused to let her go see her brother in the infirmary. She eventually was able to sneak into the tunnels to the hospital only to find he had already died. She recalled one school in Canada where the nuns were extremely strict. Her father had come to visit her and her sister, Doris, there and they met with him in the parlour with the nuns in attendance. He asked how their life there was as it was a new school for them and they politely replied that everything was wonderful but they really wanted to go home with him. As a father, he suspected that something was wrong so after he departed he listened at the door and heard the nun's cruel words to his daughters. He promptly removed them from that school and found one more to their liking. Ruth made many life long friends during her stay in these schools and corresponded and visited with them throughout her life. Ruth moved to Denison, Texas to live with her mother and her new family in the second year of high school but found the lessons there too confusing as they were in English and she had spoken French at home and in school for her entire life. So, she went back to North Dakota and finished high school in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. She then returned to Dallas, Texas and went to Western Union School for several months. Her first job with Western Union was the night shift from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and she hated it. She was living with a Mrs. Long who helped her get a job with the Farm and Ranch Publishing Company.

Frances Marion Martin wrote a bio for "Wise County History" and it is in Vol. 1. In it he says he was the son of James Parkson Martin and Mary Wilson Martin. (I believe Mary Wilson was a descendant of Jonathan Martin of Hardin county TN, which is where the "cousin" came from.) Anyway, here is a quote: "James P. Martin was a minister of the Gospel, beginning his preaching in very early years. His family consisted of four sons and two daughters. One son and one daughter died in infancy. His father, William, and mother, Virginie, had seven sons and three daughters who lived to be grown. Three became ministers and one a doctor; five were Masons. Three served in the Civil War. The youngest died in camp. Rev. Jas. P. died in Wise County, Texas, Rev. M. L. and Dr. W. S. died in Oklahoma".
