To all People to whom this present Writing shall come, I Eleanor Mothershead of Parish of Washington and County of Westmorland send Greeting. Know Ye that I Eleanor Mothershead in consideration of sum of twelve pounds current money of Virginia and five hundred pounds of tobacco already to me in hand paid by my well beloved Friend, Richard Drake of the Parish of Hanover in County of King George, and the payment of five hundred pounds of tobacco on the twenty fifth day of December which shall be in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty seven and every year thereafter on the twenty fifth of December during my natural life and for other good causes and valuable considerations to me thereunto moving hath and by these presents do grant and confirm unto Richard Drake all that parcel of land scituate in the Parish of Washington and County of Westmorland containing fifty acres, together with three Negroes, to wit, Sam, Bess and Moll, the same being my Dower and thirds of the lands and slaves whereof my late Husband, Christopher Mothershead died seized and possessed; To have and to hold the parcel of land and all the appurtenances thereunto belonging together with the three slaves to Richard Drake during my natural life and Eleanor Mothershead doth covenant and agree with Richard Drake that all the lands and premises with their appurtenances together with the three Negroes unto Richard Drake against the claim of Eleanor Mothershead and every other person during her natural life shall warrant and defend by these presents; And further know ye that I Eleanor Mothershead have put Richard Drake in peaceable and quiet possession of the land together with the three Negroes; In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Sealed and delivered in the presence of
