Will of George MOTHERSHEAD

In the Name of God Amen this 28th of April in the year of our Lord 1747. I George Mothershead of the County of King George being sick and weak in body but of perfect and sound mind and memory thanks be to God therefore, Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last Will & Testament.

Imprimis. I give unto Mary my dearly beloved wife my riding mare, spining (sic) wheel, cards, cotton, box iron and heters (sic).

Item. I give and bequeath unto my son John a young horse called Smoaker (sic) to him and his heirs forever and likewise I give him a Bible in which his name is written.

Item. I give unto my said son John all my wearing clothes.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Alvin a young horse called Brandy to him and his heirs forever and the Bible in which his name is written.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my son George a cow called Mulberry and her calf together with all her future increase to him and his heirs forever.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jemima a two year old red heifer and an old trunk to her and her heirs forever.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anne a two year old brindle heifer to her and her heirs forever.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Penelope a three year old red heifer and her increase to her and her heirs forever, and a spit.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary a spice mortar and pestle and pot rack to her and her heirs forever.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my said wife a feather bed and furniture.

Item. I give unto my son George and my daughter Anne Twenty Shillings Currency apiece.

Lastly my will and desire is that the remainder of my estate after my debts are paid shall be equally divided among my wife and four children (to wit): John, Alvin, George and Anne.

I constitute appoint and ordain my wife whole and sole Executris of this my last Will and Testament, revoking and disannulling all other former wills, legacy's (sic) and bequests by me in any wise before willed and bequeathed, Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seale (sic) the day and year first written.

At a Court held for King George County on Friday the 7th day of August 1747. The Last Will and Testament of George Mothershead, Deceased, was presented into Court by Mary Motthershed his Widdow (sic) and Executrix who made oath thereto and the same was proved by the oaths of John Quisenbury and Christopher Collins and admitted to record.
