VERNA WARD

Miss Verna Ward of Boons Camp passed away May 16. 1976.  Miss Ward
was the daughter of the late Abisha and Martha Branham Ward.  She is
survived by four brothers; Lee, Wiley, Bish "Ward" Jr,  and Ashley
Ward.  She is also survived by three sisters; Billie Edyth Ward, Elna
Ward Buster and Nellie Ward Mollett.
  
In her early years Miss Ward trained as a cosmetologist in
Indianapolis, Indiana, where she worked for approximately two years.
She returned to Paintsville where she became a nurse and worked for
Dr. J.R. Castle and Dr. J. Wells at the Golden Rule Hospital until
she earned the status of head nurse.  When the hospital changed hands
after the deaths of these two doctors, she worked for Dr. A.D. Slone
until the hospital closed.  She continued to work as his office nurse
until 1967.
  
Upon her death in 1976, Miss Ward was buried on the family farm at
Boons Camp.

Unable to find an obituary for Verna Ward, Ron Branham, with
approval, created an obituary for Miss Ward.  Information was
obtained from the Ward Geneology books written by Miss Ward's sister,
Billie Edyth Ward.
  
The Ward Family Cemetery was relocated to Highland's Memorial
Cemetery in July 2005.
