Herbert Wells, 85, of Van Lear, died Thursday, Oct. 22, at Highlands
Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
  
Born March 3, 1924, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Joe
and Lillie Mae Webb Wells. He was a coal miner and a U.S. Army
veteran.
  
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Wells, in 2007; and
a son, Ronald Wells.
  
Survivors include a son, Rodney Wells of Nashville, Tenn.; two
daughters, Wanda Collins of Van Lear and Dianna Kaye Tackett of
Winchester; two brothers, Everett Wells of Van Lear and George Wells
of Defiance, Ohio; a sister, Geraldine Cassidy of Lexington; six
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
  
Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 25, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home
Chapel, with Rick Kelly and Timmy Blankenship officiating. Auxier
Chapter 18 DAV conducted military services.
  
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction
of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.
